Description
SAMUEL GISSINGER.
- Improvement in Bed Bottoms.
Patented March 5, 1872.
SAMUEL GISSIN GER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
EMPROVEMENT IN B ED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,205, dated March 5, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL GIssINGER, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bed-Bottoms, (the same being an improvement upon the bed-bottom described in Letters Patent No. 119,600, granted to me October 3, 1871;) and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and letters of reference marked thereon, the said drawing forming a part of this, my specification.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of my improvement in bed-bottoms. Fig. 2 is a bottom or inverted view of the bedbottom. of the end rails, to which one end of the canvas is attached.
A represents the side rails, which are provided with bearings B and C, for the rollers or end pieces D and 0, upon which the canvas h is stretched. ff represent transverse pieces for holding the side pieces A apart. The canvas h is provided with a series of strips of wood, which are secured transversely on the under side of it by having their ends fastened Fig. 3 is a transverse section of one W in the hemming of the canvas. The roller D is tapering from the center toward each end, and its axis of rotation is eccentric to the cen ter axis of the roller. By this arrangement of the axis of rotation, the slack of the canvas will be taken up more rapidly, and, if desired, one end of the canvas can be raised above the other end of it, thereby giving to it a desirable elevation. The transverse pieces or strips c", on the under side of the canvas, prevent the edges of it from drawing in, and these strips, combined with the roller B with its central swell,.prevent the sagging of the canvas, and also enable the manufacturer to construct the frame-work of the bed-bottom of lighter material. The bed-bottom is manipulated as described in Letters Patent N 0. 119,600.
What I claim is- The bed-bottom, the canvas being provided with transverse strips 2', combined with the roller 13, as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
S. GISSINGER.
