stick, in such a manner as to either close up together when not in use, or unfold when in use, the present improvements mainly consisting of so arranging the arms that the center of the flexible support when in use finds a bearing on the joint part of the head of the stick.

By means of this improvement the flexible strap is caused to accommodate the contours of the sitters anatomy instead of drawing the twoarms together and thereby causing an uncomfortable nipping of the oceupants seat.

In order that this invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into practice, reference may be had to the appended explanatory sheet of drawings, upon which Figure 1 is a part-sectional elevation of a folding seat stick accordin to the present invention showing the seat 1n the open position.

Fig. 2 is a plan with part broken away of the seat stick shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a part elevation of the seat stick shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the parts in the folded or collapsed condition.

Fig. 4 is a part-elevation of the seat stick shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the aspect of elevation being at right angles to that in the case of Fig. 3.

In a convenient embodiment of this invention, the head or top of the stick is provided with a joint piece a to which projection lugs 12 on the arms 0 are pivoted, preferably by means of separate pins 0 which are each passed through each of the lugs to each arm and through the joint piece, and riveted at each end.

Alternatively, a separate pivot screw may be passed through a perforation in each lug and screwed into the side, a shoulder being provided upon the shank of the screw to Specification of Letters Patent.

The arms are so shaped as to accommodate a joint piece a of substantial width between the lugs, so as to form a substantial bearing for the flexible strap (Z when in use.

In elevation the arms 0 are curved to form downward recesses (2 so as to form a recess at each side of the center to accommodate the seat of the occupant, and the flexible strap cl is attached to cross bars f arranged at the point near the upper part of the curve of the arms 0, such flexible strap d being so arranged that when sat upon it finds a bearing at the center upon the central joint piece a. At their inner extremities the arms are furnished with elongated transverse struts g, and the latter are adapted to engage with the sides of the support a and limit the downward movement of the arm 0. Such struts 9 also limit the upward movement of the arms in such a manner that when the arms are folded or collapsed they are retained in alinement with the stick.

For the purpose of retaining the arms in the folded condition by a semi-locking connection, the locking and unlocking of which takes place automatically upon the ordinary closin or o enin of the arms the outer extremity or bowpart i of one arm iscentrally provided with a short projection 2' the head of which may be enlarged, and which projection is adapted to engage within a socket i provided in the adjacent face of the other arm. This socket 2' may or may not have a reduced neck, or it may be arranged at an incline and may have a shoulder at its one side.

A spring engagement between the projection and socket is provided for, this spring engagement being conveniently arranged for by placing the projection and socket slightly out of center, so that in order for the projection to enter the socket, one or both of the arms has to be constrained,
