In Figs. 11 and 12 I have illustrated a 'still' further modification in which the side y'members 7d are' parallelwith the sidesof the rearlegs. and are'pivoted-thereto by a bolt 8d. That part of each side member extending `.beyond the bolt is bent as at 7 e so as to rest Y in front of the leg 2, and a headed bolt 11d extends through theleg and through the V portion 7 e o f the sidemembenand has a v ng -nut thereon and a coil spring and stop similar .to'thatillustrated in Fig. 5. i'

When itis desired to rigidly secure'the back section to the legsof the stool or other`l seat vstructure,,the bolts V11A and the spring and otherpa'rts are; removed and a plain bolt and nut 'substituted therefor, which secures the back rigidlyfto the stool.

The combination in a seat structure, of a seat member, legs of angle section supporting said member, a .yielding back-rest comthe back-rest to assume a plane at an angle to the normal plane of said rest, a second pair of bolts extending through both of the flanges of each contacting pair at points intermediate the seat member and the first-named bolts, and a spring conned on each of said second bolts and exerting pressure upon the inner face of the leg flanges to resilently maintain the back-rest in a normal advanced position.
