PAUL E. PYLE, OF LA. FAYETTE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO SCHWAB SAFE GOMPANY, OF LA FAYETTE, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OFINDIAN'A.
FILE ATTACHMENT FOR specification, reference being had therein-to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in file attachments for safes; the object being to provide a fireproof and burglar-proof safe with a file holder so constructed, that a file case can be readily attached thereto or removed therefrom to enable the account books carried by the file case, to be protected.
Another and further object of my invention is to provide a safe in which the door therefor is provided with a holder to receive a file case constructed to receive account books which are supported at their opposite edges in such a manner that they can be readily inserted or removed.
Another object of my invention is to provide a safe in which the file case is so attached to the door therefor, that when the door is in closed position, the case will be swung into the body of the safe.
()ther and-further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1, is a perspective of a safe showing the file case in position to be placed Within the holder carried by the door;
Fig. 2, is a vertical section through the safe with the door in closed position, showing the file case attached thereto and partly broken away;
Fig. 3, is a detail'perspective of a portion of the file case;
Fig. 4, is a detail perspective of one of the partitions of the case; and
Fig. 5, is a perspective of a pair of the U- shaped book supports.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
In the drawings, 1 indicates an ordinary fire-proof and burglar-proof safe having the usual door 2 to the inner face of which is secured a support comprising a plate 3 having a substantially U-shaped flange 4; the horizontal portion of which is of a greater width Application filed January 7, 1916.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted Sept, 25, 1917 Serial N0;'70,792.
than the vertical portions forming a support proper, upon which is adapted to be arranged a file case 6 which is provided with side handles 7 and a catch 8 cooperating with a pivoted gravity latch 9 mounted in a housing 10 extending from the plate 3 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In the construction of support as shown, the plate is secured to the inner plate of the door of the safe, but it is, of course, understood that the inner plate of the 'door can be Provided with a substantially U-shaped flange to form a support and, therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the use of an additional support in connection with the safe door as by constructing the safe door with an inner plate having a flange, the file case can be readily supported thereby.
The file case 6 is preferably rectangular in form and is provided with a plurality of vertically disposed partitions 11 forming a series of compartments; said partitions having their ends bent laterally in opposite di rections and secured to the inner faces of the bottom and top of the case by welding or any other suitable means, and although I preferably use a metal file case it is, of course, understood that a Wooden case can be used without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The compartments formed by the sides of the case and partitions 11 are provided with oppositely disposed substantially U-shaped book supports 12 which are welded thereto so as to support the books at their opposite edges in such a manner that any one of the account books can be readily inserted or re moved from the case.
As shown in Fig. l, the door of the safe is provided with a support having a flange to receive a case for supporting the same on the inner face of the door and in such a mannor that the case is prevented from moving laterally.
Then it is desired to place the case in position on the door, the handles are grasped and the case is lifted off of the desk and placed upon the bottom support 5 and by forcing the same against the plate 3, the
catch 8 will ride under the pivoted latch 9 so as to fasten the case within the support so as to prevent the same from moving in any way and when it is desired to remove the case, it is only necessary to lift up the latch and draw the case outwardly when the same 11 ice can be carried and placed at anydesired point.
1 From the-foregoing description, itwill be seen that I have'provided a file case attachment for a safe in which the door of the safe is provided with means for supporting the file case in such a manner that the case can be readily attached thereto or removed therefrom and when attached thereto, is held in such a position that, when the door of the safe is open, the account book carried by the file case can be readily inserted or removed and When the door is in a closed position, the file case Willbe swung within the body of the case so as to protect the book against burglary and fire.
I claim: I I
1. The combination with a fire-proof safe having a swinging door, of a plate secured to'the inner face of said door having a substantially U-shaped flange, a housing extending from said plate, a pivoted latchmounted in said housing, and a removable file case arranged within the flange of said plate having a catch cooperating with said latch for holding said file case in position therein.
2. The combination with a safe door, of a plate secured to the inner face of said door having a substantially U-shaped flange, the horizontal portion of which is extended 'to forma support, a removable file case arranged on said supportbetween the vertical flanges thereof, a catch carried by said file PAUL E. PYLE.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by vaddressing the Commissioner of Patents.
