@Hoc/ung] UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRX7 LOOKE, OF MARION, IOWA.
sTALL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 721,578,01ated February 24, 1903.
Application tiled July 5, 1902. l Serial No. 1141477. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may canberra Y Be it known that I, HEnEY'LocKm'a citi: zen of the United States, residingat' Marion,
cation. Y
It is the present practice to so construct talls that the partition which normally sepa'- rates them may be partially withdrawn and rotated on an axis to a position transversely of the stalls, thus utilizingitas a closure for their front and converting two'single open- I'ront stalls into one large box-stall.
My invention relates to this class of devices, and has for its objects to provide improved mechanism forsustaining and manipthat of a stall-such,` 'for example, as the storage of Vehicles ,or the like.
To these ends the invention comprises in a stall the combination, with a partition, of a track or way, means sustaining the partition and adapted to travel on the track or way,and means whereby the partition may at will be turned to a position transversely of the track or way. i, Y
The invention further comprises the details of construction more fully hereinafter set forth. v
In the'accompanyingdrawings,Figure lisa front view of a stall embodying my invention, the partition being in position to close the same. Fig. 2 is a perspective View illustrating to insertion the partition turned preparatory Fig. 3 is a front View with to form tw o stalls.
illustrating the partition in an unobstructive position at the rear of the` stall. Fig. 5 is a side elevation, on an enlarged scale, of the partition-suspending mechanism and guide.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation, partly in section,
5. drawings, 1 indicates a of the parts shown in Fig.
Referring to the is'the movable' partition stall' having partially open or ventilated side walls 2 and a solid rear wallp.
"4 is a fore andafterwardly extending track or way inv the form of a'metal vbar, prefer` ably suspended overhead near the top of the stall and. sustained at its rear end by the back wall 3, to which it is attached in any l suitable manner, and at its front by a metal strap 5, suitablyconnected thereto and to a supporting and strengthening beam 6.
Suspendedfrom the track 4 by means of a suitable framework 7',havin g journaled therein caster-wheels 8, which travel on the track, 9. This partition, which embraces in its general organization the end posts" l0 and l1, an intermediate post l2, and a top horizontal bar 13,' is swiveled to the framework 7 by means of a swiveling-pin let, formed integral -`with a casting l5, securely bolted to the top bar 13 of the partition. By this construction it will be seen that the partition may not'only travel to and froalong the track, ybut may, owing to its swivel connection, be turned to any desired angle, and this at any desired point through-A out the line of travel,
16 vis a door'let into the partition hinged to post l2 and adapted to close against post l0. This door 'affords access to the stall when its front is closed by the partition, as in Fig. l, or as a tween the two stalls when the partition is inserted, as in Fig. 3.
17 is a slot formedin the upper end of post l1 and adapted when the partition is inserted to embrace the end of track tand hold the partition against lateral movement.
18 and 19 are suitable catches for securinfr the partition when closing the front of the Stall'. l i i In operation if desired to convert a single box-stall into two open -front stallsV the catches 18 and 19l are released and the" partition is turned onitsswivel to the posi-tion shown in Fig. 2 and then shoved inward. To convert two stallsintoone, the mannerof procedure is reversed. ".If it is'desired teem-v ploy the stall for the accommodation of vehicles or the like, the partition may be shoved directly back and lie Iiatly against the rear wall of the stall, as in Fig. 4.
It is to be understoodthat I believe myself means of communication beto be the first to produce a stall having a partition which travels to and fro on a track or way and which is susceptible of being turned at right angles to the track at any point in its line of travel. l do not, therefore, limit myself to the details herein shown and described, as the same may be variously modified without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim is-- 1. In a stall, the combination of a partition having a post at one end with a vertical slot therethrough, a track or way disposed above the partition and adapted to be engaged by the slot in the said post, means suspending the partition and adapted to travel on the track or way, and means whereby the partition may, at will, be turned to a position transversely of the track or Way. zo
2. In a stall, the combination with a partition, of an elevated track or way, means sustaining the partition and adapted to travel ou the track or way, and means whereby the partition may be turned at right angles to z5 the track at any point throughout the line of travel.
ln testimony whereof I ax my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY LOCKE.
