GUN.
fication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to guns of the type adapted for the shooting of a cork or other light projectile by the impact of compressed air. Itis one of the objects of the invention to obtain a construction that closely simulates a real gun, and further to obtain 'a simple and inexpensive construction to manufacture.
To' thisl end the invention comprises various featuresl of construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the gun; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a section on line -w Fig. 2.
A is the stock of the gun, and B the barrel preferably formed of a sheet-metal blank fashioned to form a frame portion C and cylindrical barrel portion D. E is a piston abutment, F the piston, G the piston shank,
H the spring and I the spring abutment. y
In order to give the appearance of 'a real g n and also to provide a loading mechanism that is easily operated, a pump lever spring compressing mechanism is provided. This comprises a handle J which is slidable upon the barrel, preferably by engaging the seam K which unites the edges of the blank. L and M are two links of a toggle lever, the former being pivotally attached at N to the handle J and the latter being fulcrumed upon a pin O passing through the frame. The link M is connected to the shank Gr of the piston or plunger in such a manner that the bowing of the toggle will retract the piston and compress the spring. It is, however, diliicult to arrange such an operating mechanism within the space limits of the comparatively short length barrel, and I have therefore devised a specific construction for accomplishing this, as follows:
The links L and M are formed of sheetmetal bent into a U-shaped cross section. is a link embraced by the sides of the link M and pivotally attached thereto at a point intermediate its fulcrum O and the pivotal connection M with the link L. The link l? Specification of Letters vPatent.

Application filed October 4, 1916. Serial No. 123,644.
may also be formed of sheet-metal bent into U-shaped cross section, and its inner end embraces the shank G of the plunger, to which it is attached by a cross pin Q passing through a slot Q in said shank. rIhe shank G is formed of a sheet-metal strip, which in addition to the slot Q is provided with a slot Gr f-or engaging the fulcrum pin O. The slot Q is `also of sufficient length to engage cross pin I and to permit of longitudinal movement of the shank when the plunger Ais retracted. Thus the pins I and O form guides forthe shank Gr. At its inner end the plunger G is bent at an angle, indicated at S, which forms a shoulder for engagementy with the sear. The scar is integral with the trigger T, which is so fashionedv as to simulate a trigger guard, projecting downward through a slot in the frame. U is a fulcrum pin for the trigger vand V is a hook or shoulder which constitutes a scar. l
In operation, when'the handle J is drawn rearward, the toggle lever links L and M will break downward, assuming the angular 'position shown in Fig. 2. This `movement will draw upon the link P, which in turn through the pin willdraw upon the shank pulling the latter rearward until the lshoulder S engages the sear V. The handle J may then be moved upward, straightening the toggle links L and M and also folding the link l). rIhis movement is permitted by reason of the slot Qf, which allows the pin Q to move forward when the shoulder S is in engagement with the sear. 'Io iire the gun the trigger T is operated, which depresses the scar, disengaging Ait from the shoulder S and permitting the tension of the spring H to drive the plunger forward until it strikes the abutment E. This will compress the air within the barrel to eject the cork.
What I claim as my invention is l. In a gun, the combination of a barrel, a plunger therein, a spring for actuating said plunger, an abutment for said plunger and spring, a shank for said plunger eX- tending rearward therefrom and having shoulders for engagement with the sear, a pump handle slidable parallel to said barrel, a toggle lever connected to said pump handle and fulcrumed to said barrel, the fulcrum pin passing through a slot in said shank, and a link connecting said toggle With said shank at a a plunger therein, al spring point intermediate the ends of the toggle. 2. In a gun, the combination of a barrel, for actuating said plunger, an abutment for said spring, a plunger shank around Which said springis sleeved provided With a slot through which said spring abutment passes, the rear end of said shank being adapted'for engagement with the sear, a toggle lever for retracting said plunger, having its fulcrum pin extending through a slot in said shank, and a link connected to said toggle pivotally attached to said plunger shank at a point intermediate the ends of the toggle.
3f. In a gun, the combination of a barrel, a plunger therein, a spring for actuating said plunger, an abutment for said spring, a shank for said plunger, around which said spring is sleeved, said shank having a slot through which said spring abutment extends and being fashioned at its rear end for engageinent with the sear, and a toggle lever for retracting said plunger having its rear end fulcruined on a pin passing through a slot in said shank, a link for connecting said togglel to said shank having its point of attachment to the latter yintermediate the ends of the toggle and engaging a slotted bearing, said slotted bearing permitting of the straightening of the toggle When said shank is in engagement with the sear.
4. In a gun, thevcoinbina'tion With a bar- Arel, of a vplunger therein, a spring for actuating said plunger, an abutment for said spring, including an anchoring pin eXtending across said barrel, a toggle lever, a pin forming a fulcrum for the inner end of said toggle', also extending across said barrel, a trigger and sear, anda shank for said plunger slotted for engagement With .said anchoring pin and 'ulcrum pin, and a link connecting said toggle With said shank, being attached to the lat-ter at a point intermediate the ends of the toggle and engaging a` slotted bearing, for the purpose described.
5. In a gun, a combined trigger and Sear, comprising a stamping simulating a trigger guard and having a shoulder thereon constituting the sear.
6. In a gun, thel combination with a slotted frame, of a combined trigger and sear pivotally connected to said slotted frame and having a portion projecting downward therefrom, simulating a trigger guard, vthe concealed portion of said member being` shouldered to form a sear.
' 7. In a gun, the combination With a barrel, of a plunger, a plunger shank formed .of a metal strip longitudinally yslotted and having-a turned flange or shoulder at its rear end, a sear :for engagement With said turned flange oi shoulder, and a toggle lever .for retracting said plunger shank, the inner end of said toggle being fulcrumed on a pin passing through a slot in said shank, a handle for actuating the opposite endy of said toggle, and a link extending from said toggle to said shank, being attached to the latter at a point intermediate the ends of the toggle, for the purpose described.
Intestimony whereof I aiX my signature.
