SILENCING DEVICE FOR COVERS 0F COMMODES.
Application filed July 26, 1917.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILY MoCRAoKnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, in the county of Adams and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silencing Devices for Covers of Commodes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in silencing devices for chambers, and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked'thereon form a 7 Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.

A designates a ring of suitable material, preferably rubber, and of any suitable Width, and at points diametrically opposite are the integral tabs B, which project from the ring outwardly. A strip of metal, preferably copper, designated by letter D is fixed to the inner marginal edge of the ring and is adapted to be bent over the outer edge of a chamber lid, there being two or more of said strips of copper, and when bent over the edge of the chamber cover, are designed to hold the ring securely in place.
l/Vhen the device is attached to the chamher, the ring will form a seat for the lid or cover of the chamber, and not only serve as a silencer, but will also prevent odors escaping from the chamber.
WVhat I claim to be new is:
A silencing device for chambers comprising a ring of rubber having oppositely extending tabs on the outer edge thereof, and a metallic strap secured to the inner face of each tab in alinement with the latter, said straps adapted to be bent over the edges of the lid.
