IMPROVEMENT IN AWNING-SLIDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,037, dated February 27, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Awning-Slide, invented by THOMAS F. DARCY, of the city, county, and State of New York.
Figure l is a vertical section of an awning to which my improved slide has been applied. Fig. 2 is a detail view of an end of the basebar or frame of the awning, showing a side view of the slide. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the same.

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved slide for awnings which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, effective in operation, diminishing the cost of construction, enabling the slide to be readily adjusted, as well as to hold the awning securely without the aid of screws or other analogous clamping devices. The invention consists in constructing the slide in the manner hereinafter described.
A are the slide-rods, which are attached to the window-casin g, and upon which the frame of the awning slides up and down. B is the base-rod or frame, to which the awning is attached. G are the slides, which are screwed upon or otherwise attached to the ends of the bar or frame B. The slides 0 project upward at an obtuse angle and have a hole formed in them for the passage of the rods A said hole being made wider at its lower part, as shown in Fig. 3, and in dotted lines in Fig. 2. This construction of the slides (J enables the frame B to be turned up, so that its side arms may be parallel with the rods A, and to slide up and down upon said rods. This construction also, when the awning is lowered and extend ed, causes the slides to grasp the rods A, and thus causes the awning to be held steadily by its own weight, so that there can be no shaking and rattling.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The slides G, constructed substantially as described, in combination with the rods A and base-bar B of an awning-frame, as shown and set forth.
