Description

2125166665 a, away UNITED STATES DAVID A. RUSSELL, OF WALPOLE, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOILET-RACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,935, dated February 20, 1872.
SPEoIFIeATIoN.
I, DAVE) A. RUSSELL, of Walpole, in the county of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain Improvements in Toilet-Racks, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l in the drawing is a central vertical section of my improved toilet or other rack or shelf; and Fig. 2 is a front "iew of the same.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in toilet or other racks, &c., whereby a firmer support is given to the rack when in a horizontal position than is allowed by the use of the ordinary adjustable lever arrangement, and a horizontal as well as an up-and-down movement is given to the rack, by which the rack, when placed above or below another, can be extended in an opposite direction to it, so that they can be placed nearer together, thus economizing space, and allowing the articles to be suspended on the upper rack without interfering with those arranged on the rack beneath it, thus allowing a larger number of articles to be more convenientlyheld than if the racks were placed directly over each other, which they can be if it is de sired to use them for shelves or other purposes. Or, if a single rack is used, it can be moved either to the right or left of its bearing, and yet be firmly held, thereby allowing the rack to be used in certain situations that otherwise would not admit of its adjustment.
to ain the drawing represent a plate, formed with slots b b, arranged so as to allow of their being fitted over the heads of screws 0 c, which fit into the'uarrow portion of the slots, and hold the plate firmly against the wall or strip in which the screws 0 c are inserted. Formed on the plate a a is a curved arm or bracket, 01 at, having a hollow socket or standard, 6, through which a bar, f, of the rack-frame g g, is allowed to revolve or to slide horizontally, thus allowing the frame g g and bars fff f connected with it to be raised or lowered, and moved either to the right or the left, as may be desired. The rack, when lowered, is supported by a seat or hearing, h, formed on the end of the curved arm or bracket (1 d, and arranged in such a manner as to receive and firmly sup port the second round or barf of the rackframe 9 g in any horizontal position, either to the right or left of its bearing, to which the rack may be moved.
Having thus fully described my improvements, what I claim as my invention, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent, 1s-
A toilet or other rack or shelf, consisting of a frame, 9 g, and bars or rounds ffff, one of the latter traveling horizontally and turning in a socket or standard, 0, formed on a curved arm or bracket, 01 d, one end of which being arranged with a seat or hearing, h, and the other end formed on a plate, a a, which is provided with slots I) I), substantially as specified.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID A. RUSSELL.
