dition when it is separated from thek vehi-4 cle. as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing- Figure l is a perspective Viewl of my device applied to cliild"s wagon; v
Fig. 2 is a Vertical sectional view through. the vehicle, looking toward the rear thereof;
Fig. 3 is a plan View oit' the back-restdetached and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the hack-rest in collapsed condition.
Referring to the drawing annexed by ref `erence characters, o designates the usual elongated seat board of the vehicle and the hand rails which are spaced away from thy longitudinal edges of the scat hoard and rigidly connected thereto by metal straps c. These side rails 2;, serve a support for iny improved haelt-rest which is constructed as follows:`
There are two standards d at the rear and two standards c at the front, the front standards heilig curved backwardly andenerged into the top side bars f. Additional side bars g connect vthe front standards to the rear standards, and an additional back 1oar h rigidly connects the rear standards d, these bars and standards forming a backrest which is open at the front and extends along thc respective sides of the Vehicle and also across the vehicle at the rear thereof.
The hacksrest as a whole is supported on the side rails, as above stated, and preferably the connection of the side rails 1s such that the back-rest structure may he entirely detac-hed from the vehicle. manner of connecting the back-rest to the side rails is to bend the lower end of each of the standards inwardly and downwardly to form a hook i. The distance between the front standards as' Well as the distance oetween the rear standards is greater than the distance between the centers of the side rais,

sensi no, 155cm so that when the backrest structure is Vin position the standards are approximately on a vertical plane with the outer faces of the side rails, so that the hooks rest directly on top of the side rails and extend around and engage the inner faces of the side rails. The lower portions of the standards are made suliicicntly resilient or bendalole to enabie the backrest structure to he detached from the sideral-ils hy simply springing or bending the lower portions of the standards inwardly. The back-rest structure is prevented from moving hacinvardly ofi the hand hand rails to the seat.
rails by the rear strap which fastens the- To prevent the backrest structure frombeing accidentally disconnected from the side rails, i {.rovide on the outer 'face of each front standard a stop piate '7' which hangs down for enough to engage the outer face of the raii and thus prevent the standard from being disconnected from the rail by being pushed inwardly. These stop plates j are pivotaliy connected to the standards so as to permit tliezn to he swung upwardly ont of the Way when it desired to separate the back-rest structure from the vehicle.
The opper ends of the standards d are pivotally connected to the rear ends o the side oars f, and the forward ends of the side' .The sliding connection between 'ears g and f the rear standards is fortified by a longitudinal slot lc made in each of the side bars and a pin or rivet Z extend is through the slot and fastened to the standard, the rear endjof the slot being turned upwardly slightly! tol permit the entrance thereintcof said pin Z when the seat structure is extended or folded, and thus lock the seat structure in its nnfoided condition.
While ll have illustrated and described the `preferred forni of construction for carrying niy invention into eiieet., this is capable of 'variation and modification 4withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to 'be limied to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avaii myself of such 'variations and modifications as come vwithin `the scope of the appended claims.
The nature and scope of the invention having been thus indicated and its preferred embodiment having been speoiioeiiy described, what is ciaimed as new is:
l. The Combination with ehiids Vehioie provided With e hand-rail :dong each iongitudinai edge of its seat board, bars being provided for Supporting these iierid-raiis on the sea@ board, of a buck-rest Structure provided with vdevices ai: its lower side for eiigaging said rails Slidingiy, whereby seid back-rest may be arranged t@ beau against said rail-supporting bar at he rear to Heus limit the backward movement of the beekrest.
2. The structure recited in claim l, the devices on the back-rest for efigaging the hand rails being hooks which are bent in Wardly and dowmi'a-rdiy and outwardiy to thus support the back-rest on the hondreils and to partly surround the same. ihe parts of the back-rest carrying the two :'f'orward hooks being eapabieof being pressed inwardly to detach Seid hooks from he hand-rails.
