Be it known that I, THOMAS H. DESPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newport News, in the county of Warwick and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rocker Attachments for Perambulators, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to rocker attachments for perambulators or childrens carriages, and has for its object to provide a simple, light and readily applied rocker frame upon which may be supported and securely retained in place on said frame without fastening devices, a childs carriage, wherebv said carriage may be rocked laterally without danger of running olf or being thrown from said frame, but which may at any time be easily and quickly dismounted when the carriage is to be used in its proper capacity. The rocker frame is furthermore adjustable both longitudinally and transversely to accommodate it for carria ges having different lengths and widths of wheel base.

This object is accomplished by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanving drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved rocker frame. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof showing the wheels of a childs carriage in position thereon. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4 showing a modification of the invention. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a detail of construction.

In the drawings, 10, 10 are two rocker bars placed in parallel relation to each other, each with a flat top and a curved underside to rest upon the floor.

Between the rockers and connecting them together is a reach bar 11 preferably made of metal in two parts 12 and 18. The outer end of each part is split and the two fingers 11a thus formed bent laterally in opposite directions at a right angle tothe reach bar and secured by bolts or screws each to a rocker 10. The opposite ends of the parts 12, 13, overlap for quite a distance, and are fastened together by two bolts 14 that pass through both parts and hold them rigidly together by means of nuts. One of said parts, or both if desired has a longitudinal slot 15 for each bolt 14 to pass through, thus permitting lengthening or shortening of the reach bar and vincreasing or decreasing the distance between the rockers.

Instead of making the reach bar of metal as described the same may be made of wood, the two parts 12a and 13a of which are each fastened to a rocker 10 by screws or bolts and overlap as shown in Fig. 5, the overlapping ends being secured by bolts 14. The reach bar is made adjustable by slotting one or both of said parts.

Lying parallel to the reach-bar 11 and on each side thereof is a channel bar 16, said bars' being adjustably secured to the top of the rockers 10 and serve as supports for the wheels 17 of a childs carriage. Each channel bar is preferably made in two parts 18 and 19 that overlap and are secured by a bolt 20 passing through a slot 21 in one of said parts to permit longitudinal adjustment of the channel bars. Each end of each channel bar 16 is curved upward as at 22 for a suitable distance to partly embrace the front and rear wheels of the carriage and serve as an eflicient means to hold the carriage on the channel bars, but do not prevent the carriage being elevated over the curved ends when it is desired to remove it from the rocker frame.

Secured to each end of the channel bars near the curved extremities thereof is an attaching plate 23, said plates lying at right angles to the channel bars, and each provided with two longitudinal slots 24 through which bolts or screws 25 pass to secure said plates to the top of the rockers. Midwav the length of each plate on its upper sid'e is a seat 27 curved or otherwise shaped to suit the channel bar and secured to said channel bar by a bolt or rivet 26 passing through the bar and plate.

As thus constructed the rocker frame is quickly adjusted to the length of the carriage wheel base bv loosening the nuts on the bolts 14 and 2O after the carriage has been placed in position on the channel bars and moving the rockers 10 toward and from each other until the curved ends 22 of the channel bars lie snugly about the peripheries of the carriage wheels 17. Lateral adjustment of the channel bars to the width of a carriage wheel base is obtained by loosening the bolts or screws that fasten the plates 23 of one or both of the channel bars to the rocker and moving the same until the channel barseXactly coincide with'the carriage wheels', then by tightening the bolts 14 and 20 and the screws that hold the plates 23Y to the rockers, the rocker frame is rigidly connected together' and the carriagermly secured in position thereon] A rocker, frame constructed as described,

What I claim is l. 3. A rocker attachment for childrens carriages, comprising a palr of rockers, a reach formed of two overlapping members adjustably connected together and secured to 'said'rockers, a pair of Vehicle supporting bars longitudinally adjustable mounted on the top of the rockers and having upturned ends to embrace the vehicle wheels, a plate on each kend oi each supporting bar having slotted openings therein through which fastening bolts pass to hold the bars to the rockers, and a seat on each plate fitted to the end of the supporting bar and fastened thereto. f
