assesses To all whom it may concern: 1 v I Be it known that-'L'CL E- \V. REHFUSS, a
, citizen of the United States; residing at Sparta, in the county of Monroe and State- .of W iSCDIiSlD, liavefinvented certain new and Fld111g Ironmg- Boards, of which the following is a specificauseful Improvements in 'tion, reference being had tothe accompany- 1 ing drawings.
Th's. invention relates to folding ironing boards and has for its primary ob ect to provide a device" of this character including the ironing board. properand a base foldable into compact relation with respect to. each other, and means connecting the base, and the iron ng board, whereby the board may be rigidly supported in spaced relation to "said base when 1n use.
lt'is another object of the invention provide an improved mounting and arrangementof rigid linitsbet'ween the base and ironing board, said linksbeing' disposed 11H, pairs and the base being provided with lots into which the respectlve pairs of links are foldabie. v it is a further general ob ect of the 1 nvenftion to provide'a collapsible-orfoldable ironing board for domestic use, which may be" conveniently carried in a suitcase, the device as a whole being exceedingly simple" in its. construction, strong and durable, and capable of manufacture at relatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view,
myinventio-n consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts to be hereinaftermore fully described, claimed and illustrated in the-ac companying 'dr wing, in which,
Figure 1 is aperspectiveview showing my improved ironing board in position for use;
Fig. Qis- 'a'detail vertical section; Fig.8 is a similar view showing the ironing board collapsed or folded; and
Fig." 4 is a section taken on the line Refhrring in detail to the drawing,- 5 designates the baseboard which is of requisite thickness, width and length, and 6designatesthe ironing board, proper which is of v the usual shape and slightly longer than the.

. in 'each' ofthesexslots. These ends of the ceive the screw bolts LO-Whic-heXtend trans-- versely across the slots 7' and have their inner 1 ends threaded into thebody of the board 6.
Collars or washers 11 are arranged upon' each of the bolts between the links 8 and!) and the respective :longitudinal edgesofthe slots7. 1 a f The baseboardb "is alsopro-videdadjacent to each of its longitudinal edges with-a longitudinal slot 12, said s lot'being considerably. longer than the slot 7 'in"the board 6.'.--
Spaced, threaded'bolts 13 also-traverse these slots12and are threaded into the-board 5.
The links 8 and 9 of the'respective pairs are disposed in ,intersecting,re'lation, the lower ends of thelinks 8 being pivotall'y mounted upon the corresponding-bolts 13 contiguous to the inner ends of the slots 12-.
Gollars14 areengaged upon these bolts between-the links and the outer'wallsofthe slots. Thelower ends of the'other linkbars 9 are notched or'recessed, as at15, forde tachable engagement with thebther bolts 13 which',-are' located intermediate of the ends vided with openings 16 adapted to coincide to receive a movable lockingrod 17, one end of which is threaded forthe, engagement their supporting positions and prevents their relative movement or collapse.
' In the use of the device, it will be readily understood that 'whenthe ironing board 6 is raised in spaced relation to the' baseboard the point of intersection of the link bars Sand 9, said bars arepro 5, and the link bars 9 engage with the rods or bolts/13 and'locked against folding move ment by means of the rod 17,the garment may be readily'arranged over. the ironing board and any degree of pressure exerted thereon bytheiron withoutliabil-ity of the board folding or collapsing.-
After the useof the board, when it is desired to fold the same, therod, 17 is with drawn and the board 6 forced downwardly upon' the baseboard '5, after the links 9 have been disengaged from t'he-rod 13. The links 8 and 9 will move with respect to each other .into the slots 12 in the baseboard 5. hen thus disposed, the ironing board 6 is in close I contact upon the upper surface of the basefolded condition may thus be compactly arboard 5. .The device in its collapsed or ranged in a suitcase, or stored away for future use in a relatively small space.
. From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
it.'wil1b e seen thatl. have devised a very simply constructed, convenient and serviceironing *ing 125 able ironing board which is particularly designed for individual household use, thou h 'it will, of course, the e'vice may be constructed-in various sizes, and-can be advantageously employed by tailors. The baseboard 5, as well as .the board-6, may be made in various other shapes than that illustrated inthe drawing. It is also .tobe understood that while I have herein shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, thesame are susceptible of considerable modification and I, therefore, reserve the privilege. of adoptall such legitimate changes as may be of the invention'as claimed.
.- tion, what I desire 'Letters' Patent is:
1. A device of the character described in- 'clu'ding abaseboard having spaced longi Having thus fully described my inven' to claim and secure by be manifest that fairly embodied within the'spirit and scope tudinal slots therein, an ironing board,.and spaced pairs of link bars tosupport the pair being also pivotally mounted penna-snently within one end of the respective slots in the baseboard, means'fixed the base-- therein to which the free ends of the other link bars are adapted to be detachably conto support the same in spaced relation j to thebaseboard, one of the link bars in each board' at the center of, each of the slots nected, said link bars being foldable irito-the' latter link bars within the slots in the baseboard.
