BELT.
To all whom t may concer/a: Y
lBe it known that I, lULYssns H. Him., a citizen of the United States, residing at Brownwood, in the county of Brown and s State of rlexas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts; and l do hereby declare the'following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
IThis invention relates to belts, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a belt, which includes an outer casing havin a buckle attached thereto, and a tab sli ably positioned within one end of the outer casing for coaction with said buckle for fastening the belt about the body 0f a wearer, and to attach an elastic strip to the inner end of said tab' whichstrip extends about the interior of the belt, so as to allow ex ansion or contraction of the belt, under dierent movements of the body of the wearer, and further to attach a non-elastic strip to the end of the tab and to the outer casing for limiting the expanding movement of the belt.
With theforegoing and other objects in view, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as v. ill be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanyin drawing and claimed.
In descri ing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawin wherein like characters designate like an corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved belt.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the belt.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectionthrough the belt showing the manner of attaching the tab to theelastic member.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the elastic member and the means for limiting the expanding movement of the same, and
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on an enlarged scale through the connecting ends of the belt.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the outer casing of the belt, which is constructed of soft leather or analogous material, and has its ends open. A
Specification of Lettera Patent.
Application med October 20, 1916. Serial No. 126,702.
Patented July 2d, 191'?.
ybuckle 2 is attached to one end of the casingv 1 of the belt by tongues 3 which are forme upon the inner portion of the outer casing as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. A tab 4: which is provided with a plurality of spaced openings 5 is provided, for coaction with the buckle 2 for holding the belt about the waistv of thewearer. One end ofthe tab 4 extends into the end 5 of the casing 1, to which the buckle 2 is attached and it has a strip 6 of elastic attached to its inner end, in any suitable manner, such as by stitchingas in icated at 7 in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The elastic strip 6 extends around the interior of the belt'and has its end attached to the inner surface of the turned in portion 3 of the belt casing l as shown at 8. A strip 10 of non-elastic fabric is also stitched to the end of the tab 4 and to the inner surface of the inturned portion 3 of the belt casing l at 8. rllie fabric strip 1,0 is longer than the elastic strip 6 and folds upon itself as indicated at 11 in Fig. 3 of the drawing,.so as to allow of a limited expanding movement of the elastic strip, to permit of the increasing `the strip of elastic, as indicated at 22. The
fabric strip 2l is loose between the stitchings 22 so that the elastic strip 20 may stretch between the points of stitching of the fabric strip, thereby causing an even expanding or stretching movement of the elastic strip, throughout its entire length, and preventing the elastic strip from stretching more at one point than at another.
The free end of the tab 4 is inserted in the open end 12 of the outer casing l of the belt as indicated at 14k.
In reducing the invention to practice, 'certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. In a belt, an outer casing, having its ends open, a buckle attached to one end of said casing, a tab having one end slidably extending into the open end of said casing upon which said buckle is'mounted, an elastic strip secured to the inner end of said tab and extending about the interior of said casing, said elastic strip having its end which is free from connection t0 said tab attached j to the inner surface of said casing, a fabric y. strip attached to said tab and extending about the interior of said casing and having its end which is free from connection with said tab attached to the inner surface of said casing, said fabric strip being longer than said elastic strip for permitting of a limited stretching ovement of the elastic strip.
2. In a elt, an outer casing, having its ends open, a buckle attached to one end of said casing, a tab having one end slidably extending into the o en end of said casing upon Whlch said buc e is mounted, an elasis free from connection to said tab attached to the inner surface of said casing, a fabric strip attached to said tab and f extending about the interior of said casing and having its end which is free from connection with said tab attached to the inner surface of said casing, said fabric strip being longer than said elastic strip for permitting of a limitedstretching movement of the elastic strip, said fabric strip being stitched to said elastic strip at spaced intervals `along the length of the elastic strip for equalizing the stretching action of the elastic strip.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signaturer in presence of two Witnesses.
