SHADE-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 29, 1915. Serial No. 58,652.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Orro H. MEYnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York andState of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain or shade braekets, one object of the invention being the provision of a device, the members of which are each provided with a hinged curtain or shade spindle receiving member, whereby a roller may be supported within or without the window frame, and also whereby two lengths of roller may be supported without using different brackets.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a shade bracket having a supporting member for attaching the bracket to the window frame, the shade supporting member being hinged thereto, so that the shade may be supported when the hinged supporting member is in a vertical or horizontal position, thus adapting the device for use upon long and short roller.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the upper portion of a window frame with a shade roller supported within the frame.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the shade supported exteriorly of the frame.
Fig. 3 is a view showing the brackets in use.
Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views of the two members of each of the brackets.
Referring to the drawings, the numbers 5 and 6 designate the two brackets, used to support the shade rollers 7 and 8. 1
Both of the brackets are identical except that one is for supporting the flattened spindle of the roller, as is usual, and the other is for supporting the cylindrical spindle.
Each bracket comprises thehead 9, having the supporting fastening 10, here shown a screw, while upon the opposite side is the lug 11, the outer end of which is rounded at one side edge. Removably mounted in the lug 11 is the hinging pin 12. The other member or wing 13, is provided on the opposite side edges adjacent the inner end with the spaced parallel cars 14, which project at right angles from the wing and have their outer side edges arranged in the plane of the edge of one end of the wing. The cars 14: straddle the lug l1, and are pivotally engaged by the hinging pin 12, so that the wing 13 is arranged adjacent the rounded edge of the lug in order that it may be swung to assume the position as shown in Fig. 1 or the positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3. 14, near its outer end is provided the two shade trunnion receiving slots 15 and 16, the slots 15, supporting the shorter roller 7, as shown in Fig. 1, while the slots 16, support the trunnions of the roller 8, as shown in Fig. 2.
Thus by the use of a bracket of this character the screw 10, may be attached to the inner or outer face of the window frame, and the shade supporting wing 13, may be swung to abut the outer edge of the lug and assume the positions as illustrated in Fig. 1 or else it may be swung so that the outer straight side edges of the ears abut the head as illustrated in F i s. 2 and 3.
In order t at the head 9 may be driven by a screw driver, the slot a is provided in the lug 11, as shown in Figs. 4: and 5.
What I claim as new is A shade bracket including a head adapted to be attached to a window casing, a lug projecting from the head and having a portion of the outer edge rounded toward one side edge, a fiat elongated wing having trunnion supporting means in the outer end, ears formed on the side edges of the wing at the opposite end and projecting at right angles therefrom and having their outer straight side edges arranged in the plane of the edge of the inner end of the wing, and a pin for pivotally connecting the ears upon opposite sides of the lug so that the inner surface of the wing is arranged adjacent the rounded edge of the lug to permit of the wing being swung to abut the outer edge of the lug or else swung so that the outer straight side edges of the cars will abut the head.
