WIN DOW-SHADE FIXTURE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH B. HOGLE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Shade Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

.- My invention relates to improvements in window shade fixtures and has for its ob ject the product-ion of a fixture of this character which will be of durable and economical construction, and efficient in operation. 'Other objects will appear hereinafter.

WVith these objects in view myinvention consists in a window shade fixture characterized as above mentioned andin certain details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective of an upper corner portion of a window sash to which is applied a shade fixture embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged central section of the base port-ion of the fixture, Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line yy of Fig. 2, and Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the base plate of the device.

Referring now to the drawings 2 designates an ordinary upper sash of a window. Arranged upon the inner side of the upper bar of the sash 2 adjacent each side thereof is a substantially rectangular base plate 1 secured thereto in transverse alinement by means of screws 5 which pass through perforations 6 provided for the reception thereof in said plates. The plates 1 at the respective sides of the window sash, are identical in construction, the same being arranged however, for engagement by right and left hand bracket members. The upper and lower edge portions 7 of the plates 4 are offset outwardly from the surface of the sash as clearly shown in Fig. 2, said offset ends projecting however, not far enough to prevent free sliding of the sashes past each other.

Removably mounted upon the base plates 4 are similar bracket members each of which comprises a supporting arm or body 8 and a base portion 9 which is disposed at substantially right angles to said portion 8.

The outer extremities of the bracket arms 8 are slotted as at 10 in the usual manner, to accommodate the gudgeons at the respective extremities of the roller of the shade 10, one of said slots being circular in form to accommodate the circular gudgeon and the other square to accommodate the square gudgeon as is ordinary. The bracket arms 8 are of such a length that when a shade is supported thereby, the latter will depend and hang free of the inner sash, the advantage of such construction being obvious.

The upper and lower edge port-ions of the base portion 9 of each of the bracket members are bent back to form engaging flanges 11 which are adapted to slidably embrace the offset edge portion 7 of the base plates 1, said bracket members being thus detachably secured in position upon said base plates. The outward sliding of said bracket members upon the base plates 4 is limited by means of projecting ears 12 provided at the extremities of said base plates, the adjacent portions of the base portions 9 of said brackets being cut away as at 13, to receive said cars 12, and so that when said bracket members are in position upon said base plates, the vertical or longitudinal edges of the base portions of the former will be flush with the corresponding edges of the latter.

Arranged between the arm 8 in each of the bracket members and a parallelly extending ear 14 formed integral with and bent from the base portion 9 thereof, is an angular dog or lever 15. Said dog 15 is pivotally secured in position between the bracket arm 8 and the ear 11 by means of integral trunnions 16 formed upon opposite sides thereof, which engage perforations 17 provided in the adjacent portions of said arm and ear. The upper or inner end portion of the dog 15 projects through a slot 18 provided in the base portion 9, a tongue 19 provided at the extremity thereof snugly engaging an elongated slot 20 provided centrally in the base plate 4. The arrangementis such as will be observed, that when said tongue 19 of said dog is in engagement with said slot 20 as shown in full lines in Fig. 2 relative lateral movement of the bracket upon the base member will positively be prevented; releasing of said bracket memher being effected by swinging said dog to the dotted line position as shown in said figure. In order to preclude all possibility of the inner extremity of said tongue 19 contacting and thus marring the adjacent surface of the window sash, the portion of the plates 4; surrounding the slot 20 is pressed slightly outwardly as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. hen the dog 15 is in locking position, shoulders 21. thereof forcibly or frictionally engage the adjacent outer surface of the plates 4 thereby serving as a means of maintaining said dog in locking position.

By the construction above set forth, it will be seen that the shade brackets may be attached or detached with ease and expedition. The brackets being arranged upon the upper sash instead of the window frame, such as is now ordinarily the practice, the shade supported thereby will not be subjected to the impingement of the wind thereon when the upper sash is lowered, thus obviating rattling of the shade such as occurs where the shades are hung in the ordinary manner upon lowering of the upper sash.

The device set forth is durable and economical, the same may be manufactured at a low cost, and the same is not susceptible to readily becoming inoperative.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim. 3 5

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a window shade fixture, the combination of a base plate adapted to be secured to a window sash, the upper and lower edges of said plate being offset outwardly and the central portion being raised and provided with a slot; a bracket having a base portion disposed at substantially right angles to the 5 body thereof and of a width substantially equal to that of said base plate, said base plate portion being slotted to correspond with the slot in said base plate; engaging flanges atthe upper and lower edges of said 5 base portion adapted to slidably embrace said edges of said base plate; a flange on said base portion opposite said bracket; an angular dog pivotally mounted between said securing flange and said bracket, the come sponding end of said dog being adapted to project through said slot and to lock said bracket to said base plate, substantially as described.
