Description

H. HERLT.
lmprovment in PUHs for Drawers,'&c.'
No, 123,398, 7 r I Patented Feb. 6, 1872 v z/mfm Unrann Srrarrns Parana @FFIGE.
HERMANN HERLT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN PULLS FOR DRAWERS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,398, dated February 6, 1872.
Specification of a new and Improved Pull, invented by HERMANN HERLT, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York.
My invention relates to an ornamental head or figure supporting in its mouth aloose handle used as a pull for furniture, &c., the said handle being so constructed that it may be raised when grasped by the hand for use, and hang down out of the way when relaxed by the hand and not in use.
In the accompanyingdrawing, Figure 1 represents in perspective view my improved pull. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view.
A is the ornamental head, which is made of any suitable metal, substantially constructed to resist the strain of the operating parts. B is a rod, having a ball. 0, at one end and a screw-thread at the other end to receive the nut H, which is shown in Figs. 1 and 3. E is a bolt by which the head A is fastened wherever it is desired to be used, the said bolt being provided with a screw, F, at one end, by which it is attached to the head A by means of the corresponding screw 0 within the said head. YVithin the mouth of the head is a round recess to receive and hold the rod B by means of the ball 0. I is a handle, constructed of wood, and of various forms to suit the other parts.
Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing show the manner of putting the parts together and the manner in which the rod B is held and supported in the mouth of the head or figure. In putting the parts together the rod B is inserted at the rear of the head through the opening 0, shown in Figs. 2 and 3, until the ball 0 is placed within the round recess, which is so constructed in the. mouth of the head as not to mar the looks or beauty of the same. The ball having been placed within the said recess the screw F of the bolt E is inserted within the opening 0, which serves to prevent the ball from becoming detached and at the same time support the head in place when in use.
I am aware that ornamental pulls have been in use, but constructed somewhat different from mine, the handle being held by rivets or the cup holding the ball being burnished over the ball after being put together; but by constructing the pull in the manner shown the recess for holding the operating parts is formed at the same time the head or figure is constructed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is- I claim the combination of the circular recess on the escutcheon-plate, the pull B with its spherical head 0, held in place by the shank E, which is screwed into the plate 011 the rear of the recess, substantially as specified.
