Be it known that I, PHILIP BERNARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Adjusting Device for Windows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to adjusting devices for windows.
The invention is especially applicable to sky-lights and to windows that are mounted at an angle, as upon roofs, and the like, and such as are especially designed for hog and chicken houses, and the like.
The present application constitutes a division of an application filed by me April 2 1, 1916, Serial No. 98,249.
The object of the invention is to provide a construction which will rigidly hold the window sash against wabbling in any position of adjustment, and which will be unobtrusive when the sash is in closed position.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, with the further understanding that while the drawing shows a practical form of the invention, the latter is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing, but may be changed and modified, so long as such changes and modifications come within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the window from the interior of the building, the sash being in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the window frame and sash as applied to the roof portion of a building, with the sash shown in raised position.
Referring to the drawing, there is shown a window frame comprising side bars 1 and end bars 2, 3, respectively. Secured to and extending lengthwise of the end bar 2 is a hinge member 4:, to which is pivoted the window sash 5, the same being shown as applied to an inclined roof 6.
The particular construction of window sash and frame herein illustrated constitutes no part of my invention, and needs no fur ther description, especially as it is fully described in the parent application above mentioned. While I have shown one embodi Serial No. 137,835.
ment of the present invention applied to a window of the particular construction abovementioned, it is to be understood that the invention is applicable to windows of other types and constructions.
For the purpose of raising and lowering the sash 5 about the pivot or hinge 4:, I have provided a Y-yoke 7 having arms 8 connected by pivots 9 to the lower portion of the sash at the end thereof remote from the hinge. The yoke 7 comprises angular bars 7 having spaced parallel portions 10 and diverging portions forming the arms 8.

A loop 12 having parallel sideslS is pivotally connected at its free ends to the free ends of the bars 7 as indicated at 141. It will be seen that the sides 13 and the parallel portions 10 of the yoke 7 constitute spaced guides for receiving a suitable clamping means.
When the window is installed in a building, there is provided a board or strip 15 near the end of the window frame remote from the hinge connecting the sash to the frame. This board or strip is provided with a bolt 16, so arranged as to extend between the sides of the loop and the parallel portions of the yoke. Applied to the bolt and overlapping the loop and yoke is a plate or washer 17 and a wing nut 18, whereby the yoke and loop may be readily fastened in any appropriate position either holding the window sash in closed position as shown in Fig. 1, or in the elevated position, as shown in Fig. 2.
By jointing the yoke and loop together at an appropriate point, the loop may hang pendently when the window is closed, thus having it out of the way and-free from liability of interfering with anyone within the building. At the same time, thejointing of the means for elevating and lowering the window and holding it in place in no way interferes with such functions.
What is claimed is 1. A window structure comprising a window frame, a sash hinged to the window frame, and means for opening and closing the sash and holding it in different positions, comprising a yoke having angular bars attached at their ends to the sides of the sash, and a loop pivoted to the ends of said bars, and clamping means for engagemcnt With said bars and said loop and adapted to hold the Window in different positions of adjustment.

A Window structure comprising a WindoW frame, a sash hinged at one end to said Window frame, a Y-shaped yoke having the diverging arms thereof pivotally attached to said sash at the end thereof remote from the hinge, the central arm of said Y-shaped yoke comprising. spaced apart parallel portions, a loop having parallel sides and pivoted atv its free end to the free ends of said parallel portions, a bolt fixed to a portion of the Window frame and adapted to project between the parallel portlons of said yoke 1 and sides of said loop, and a Washer and nut upon said bolt for clamping said yoke and PHILIP BERNARD.
