JOHN A. MGCASKEY, OF HAGERHILL, KENTUCKY.
CORNER-TROWEL.
Application filed September 29, 1916.
b all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN A. MoCAsKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hagerhill, in the county of Johnson and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corner-Trowels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in trowels and has particular relation to trowels for working in corners.
The object of the invention is to provide a corner trowel formed from a single sheet of steel and bent into a desired form, and held together without the use of rivets or other fastening means. 1
To this end the invention consists of a body portion composed of two working surfaces arranged at an angle slightly less than a right angle, and joined together at their top by means of overlapping flanges, and portions bent up from said body for the attachment of a handle.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corner trowel constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a central transverse sectional view of the same; and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the trowel is made.
In the practical embodiment of the invention the same consists of a body portion made from a single sheet of metal. This body portion provides working surfaces 1 of sheet metal bent at an angle slightly less than 90. This angle permits the trowel to work in corners.
Formed integral with one of the faces 1 are a pair of transverse bars 2, the said bars extending across to the edge of the opposite working face and being connected by means of a longitudinal bar 3. This last named Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 12, 1917.
Serial No. 122,889.
bar is adapted to be drawn beneath a flange 4c mounted upon the edge of one of the working faces and securely retains these faces in their proper relation. The material of which the trowel is formed is sufficient to resiliently hold the body portion together without the aid of rivets or other fastening means.
Bent forward from the transverse bars 2 are supports 5 forming a convenient means for supporting a handle or grip 6. The space formed by cutting out and bending up the supports 5 provides room for the fingers of the user, so that the trowel may be made in a convenient and compact form.
The facings 1 at their lower edge are extended slightlyas at 7 to form a working point for use in pointing.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it will be seen that the invention provides a simple and economically constructed trowel for use in corners. As above stated this trowel is formed from a single sheet of metal and has its working faces arranged at such an angle to permit its use in all corners.
Having described the invention, what I claim is;
l. A corner trowel comprising a hollow prismatic shell having an open top, marginal longitudinal and transverse bars around the opening and a handle carried by the said trowel.
2. A corner trowel formed from a single piece of sheet metal and comprising a hollow prismatic shell provided with an open top, marginal longitudinal and transverse bars around the opening and a handle carried by the said trowel.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN A. MoOASKEY.
