IMPROVEMENT IN PROPS FOR BUGGV-TOPS.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,833, dated January 16, 1872.

We, ANTHONY HUEE and ANDREW J.

AMITCHELL, of the city of Louisville, county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, lhave in= vented a certain new and useful Improvement in Props for Buggy-Tops, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of our invention consists more especially in the solid T-shaped top part of the main prop and its connections, the top of the buggy being made similar to those now in use. This T-shaped part of the prop is fastened to the top of the buggy by means of a bolt or pin at the point Where the lower brace joins it, so as to turn easily. This T-piece has also a joint at each end connecting with the other parts of the brace at the back and in front. These joints are all so arranged as that they will all be unseated by one operation, thereby requiring but one movement ofthe hand to unseat all the joints at the same time and permit the top to fold down easily; so also, in like manner, when necessary tol raise it again, which requires but one operation of the hand to replace the props firmly after the top has been raised, which is a great convenience that will give it precedence over all others now in common use, all of which requires more than one movement to unseat and replace the joints in the different props. These props are all secured to the sides of the top by bolts or pins similar to those now in common use. The object of my invention is to provide a prop that Will be at all times neat, simple, and easily operated, and not liable to get out of order 5 not requiring the occupant to risetfrom his seat to operate it, except so far as raising the top is concerned, which in all cases requires a separate movement of the hand to eifect it. But in order to let it down all that is necessary is to unseat the joint in the lower main prop, which will un seat all the rest at the same time, and permit the top to fold down behind easily, without inconvenience to the occupant.

Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, a more thorough understanding of it may be had by reference to the drawing. The drawing is a perspective View of the seat and skeleton frame of the top, showing the general arrangement ofthe props at the side.

In the drawing,A is the main prop. Bis the irst joint thereof. Gis the T-shaped top part of the main prop. D is the first joint in front. E is the joint in the after arm. K is the pin on which the T-piece Works. F F are the bows of the buggy-top. G G are the leather braces of the same. H H and I I are the` hinges. J is the seat.

Having thus fully described the drawing, I do not claim anything as new in the arrangement or construction of the buggy-top; but i What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The T-shaped top c of the main prop A, and also the forward joint D, in combination with the joints E and B, when all of them are so arranged as to be unseat-ed at one and the same time by the same movement that unseats the joint B, when arranged, constructed, and operated substantially as and for the purpose hercinbefore set forth.
