To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ROY ill. BoswnLL and HARRY E. MARTIN, citizens of the United States, residing atk Tate, in the county of Fawne'e, State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Gollapsibie ShippingCases; and we do hereby declare the following to` be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art towhich" it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to im rovements in shipping receptacles, and is irected more particularly to collapsible cases adapted for use inthe transportation of eggs or other articles.

An object of the present invention resides in the provision of a collapsible shipping case embodying means of novel construction and arrangement for securing it in set-up position.

A further object of the invention is to provide a case which'may be conveniently folded in small compass for storage or shipment.

The invention further proposes a fastening means of novel construction and application for assembling the various portions of the case.

With the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists n the construction, combination and arrangement of parts,set forth in and fall ing within the scope of the appended claims.

Referring now more partculariy to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated in Fig. 1 the blank from which our improved case is formed, said blank consisting -of a substantially rectangular body l0 provided with parallel fold lines 11 dividing the body into a central portion adapted to form the bottom 12 of the case and side portions adapted to be disposed at right angles to the central portion to provide the side walls 13 of the case.

Formed at the ends of the sideportions 15 and defined therefrom by the fold lines i4, are flaps 15 `adapted 'to be folded to lie in overlapped relation to provide the ends of the case. Certain of these iiaps are'provided with spaced series of openings 16 while the remaining flaps are provided with spaced pairs of openings 17. In foiding the end flaps to form the ends of the case, thosek provided with the openings 16 are disposed inwardly of those having the openings 17,

while the latter openings are disposedy in registration with corresponding pairs` of openings 16.

Formed at the ends of the central portion 12 of the body and defined therefrom bythe fold lines 18, are iaps 19 foldable to over# lap the end flaps 15 and provided with spaced pairs of elongated openings 20 registrable with the corresponding openings in said Haps. Formed on the outer transverse edge portions of the flaps 19 and defined therefrom by the fold lines 21 are iaps 22, foldable to close the top of the case. Formed on the outer longitudinal edges of the side portions 13 and defined therefromby the fold lines 23, are liaps 2li foldable vto overlap the flaps 22.

In assembling the' strips, the intermediate or slotted portions are disposed'with the slots 36 openl ing toward each other and are brought together in interlocked relation as shown most clearly in -rFig. 8. The intermediate' por-t tions 35'thus provide the partition which divides the case into compartments while'the vends 37 of each strip coperate. with the adjacent ends of the other strip to reinforce the side walls of the compartments thus produced. The eggswill in this manner be protected on all sides by a double thickness of board, possibility of breakage being cor respondingly reduced, while the case itself l' will be materially strengthened to resist the hard usage to whichit may be ibi-lasted. With the partition and streng-the; ng :nember in position, suitable fillers and flats (not shown) may be placed in the case and filled with eggs in they usual manner after which Athe iaps 22 and 24: Vare folded to close the case.

In order to'lock the case, there is carried 'by'each of the flaps 22, a strip 3l intermediately secured to, the flapas at 32, with its ,endsbent upwa-rdand adaptedfor insertion through corresponding openings After insertion of said ends through the openings,-

they are bent toward each other as clearly illustrated, one ofsaid ends'1being longer than-the other and aaaptedto overlie the same with its'terminal removably inserted in the related openingofthe shorter end,

vNVhat is claimed is;

1. 4In a collapsible shipping case, the combination with overlapping flaps providing a `wallof the case, said aps having pairs of registering openings, and one of the aps being further formed with 'an opening in vertical alinement with said registering openings, of a locking strip having its ends bent and inserted through the registering openings, one of, saidfends 'being further -bent to overlie the other end thereof and extending therebeyond and entering the alin- 'ening-with its extremity disposed betweenthe flaps.
