CUE-REST.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DOUGLAS J. REAR, a

subject of the King of Great Britain, re-

siding at Durban, South Africa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cue- Rests, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in cue rests.

An object of the invention is to produce a rest or support for billiard and pool cues wherein the rollers are employed for'guiding the cue and which rollers are arranged to exert a downward influence or pressure upon the cue to prevent the same rising or jumping from the rest.

It is a further object of the invention to produce a cue support or rest provided with anti-frictional members which serve as guides for the cues and whereby the said cue may be manipulated with an accuracy not obtainable by the present construction of bridges or cue rests.

It is a still further object of the invention to produce a cue rest or support which shall embody the desirable features of simplicity, cheapness and thorough efliciency.

With the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates a cue rest constructed in accordance with the present invention. This rest includes a handle 2 having secured to one of its ends a head 3. The head preferably comprises a square member and has each of its sides centrally provided with an outwardly extending spindle 4, and upon each of the spindles is journaled a roller 5. By reference to the drawings it will be noted that the rollers are of a width equaling the width of the head 8 but the edges of the same do not contact and by reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings'it will be noted thattwo of the rollers serve as a support for the device and that the other two provide a pocket within which the one is arranged for manipulation. The rotary movement ofthe guide rollers for the cue have a tendency to so engage with the cue as to force the same downward within the pocket between the said rollers and at the same time being freely revoluble upon their respective spindles permit of the ready and accurate reciprocation of the cue between the said rollers. Each of the rollers upon its outer end is formed with a depression 6 and each of the spindles has its outer end reduced to receive the washers 7 which are received the depressions in the respective rollers and which hold the rollers upon the spindles, it being understood that the washers 7 are secured to the reduced ends of the spindle.

In Fig. 5 the head 2 has its spindles 4 of a lesser length than those previously described, and each ofv the spindles is centrally provided at its ends with a threaded aperture 8. Also the spindles, at their outer ends, have their outer corners provided with an annular depression or groove 9. The rollers 5 are each centrally provided with an annular depression 10 which is adapted to be arranged in a line with the groove 9 and to provide the raceway for anti-frictional balls 11. The numerals 12 designate the annular heads of screw members 13, the screws being received in the threaded openings 8 of the spindles 4., and the inner edge of the member 12 is formed with an annular groove 14 which is adapted to contact with the anti-frictional balls 11. The outer edges of the heads of the members 12 are formed with transverse kerfs 15, whereby an ordinary screw driver or the like may be employed for securing the members 12 in the bores of the rollers 5 and connecting the same with or disconnecting the same from the spindles 4.

Having thus described the invention, What I claim is:

1. In a device for the purpose set forth, a handle member having a square head, a spindle extending centrally from each of? the sides of the head, a roller member ournaled on each of the spindles and saidrollers being of a thickness approximately equaling the Width of each of the sides of the head.

2. In a device of the class set forth, a handle member having a head at one'of the ends thereof, a spindle extending from each of the sides of the head, a roller member journaled on each of the spindles, and means for securing the rollers to the spindles.

3. In, a device for the purpose set forth, a handle member having a square head, a spindle extending centrally from each of the sides of the head, a roller journaled on each of the spindles, and each of the rollers Copies of this patent may be obtained for being approximately of a diameter equaling the Width of the sides of the head, each oi said rollers having its bore provided With a transverse continuous groove, anti-frictional members in the groove and contacting With the spindles, and members connected With the spindles and arranged in the bore of the rollers and engaging With the anti-frictional members for retaining the same in the races ways. 7
