.on the file, and yet permit the same to be easily and quickly removed when desired.
The invention further embodies the desired features of simplic ty in construction,
and easily manipulated as described.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing formin part of this specification like numerals 0 reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherem:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the preferred form of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the adjusted position of the movable member by dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a modified form.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 41 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, an elongated plate 10 has secured thereto the cooperating members of a file, and in this instance the plate 10 is adapted to be secured to a desk or other suitable support by means of the fastening elements 11. Secured to the plate 10 adjacent its lower edge as at 12 is one end of the fixed member 13 of the file, which member projects forwardly from the plate 10 and is of substantially U-shaped formation in cross section at one end thereof. Secured to the plate 10 at a point :uljacent its upper end is one terminal of the relatively movable member l t, which is curved outwardly and downwardly as shown with the lower extremity of the curved portion ex tending upwardly as at 15 and terminating to provide a horizontally disposed portion Specification of Letters Patent.

16 which is adapted to be received within the Ushaped extremity of the fixed member 13 under normal conditions. In this position the horizontally disposed portion 16 of the relatively movable member forms a continuation of the fixed member 13 and provides a satisfactory support or file for bills and the like. that the length of this support can be varied without departing from the spirit of the in vention. The lower extremity of the member 14 and the extension 15 definesa. manipulating portion adapted to be engaged by the finger for the purpose of retracting the hori- Zontal portion 16 out of engagement with the fixed-member 13 as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, when it is desired to place a bill upon the file or remove one therefrom. In either instance the bills upon the file can be moved forwardly or rearwardly at one or the other side 'of the joint, between the re spective members, prior to the separation of the member 14 from the fixed member 13. The component parts of the device may be constructed -from any suitable material, preferably resilient wire, under which circumstances the relatively movable member 14' automatically returns to its normal position when released by the user of the device.
The modified form of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 wherein a, base It is of course to be understood 17 is adapted to be secured to a suitable at the upper end thereof, and extended outwardly and downwardly at the opposite sides of the sleeve 19. The lower extremities of the member 21 are curved upwardly he memsubstantially U-shaped r tion thereabout is a sleeve 19, from which as at 22 and then extended horizontally as i the preferred form, except that the billfile Eropcr is mounted for rotation and susceptile of being moved into a convenient 'position for use.
While I have shown and described what] Iconsider the best forms iof theinVention,
I desire to have it iinderstqgd thatI do not limit myself to this precise construction and arrangement and that such changes may" be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is L'A device of the class described com- 'movably engaging said prising a support, a fixed member projectmg therefrom, a relatively movable resilient member mounted upon the support and forming eieontinuetion of the fixed member, and said movable member being provided with a dependingiinger engaging manipulating loo 2. A device of the class'described comprising ef base, e standard rising 4 a sleeve rotatably mounted on saldstandard, a fixed member said sleeve, a relatively movable member constrlicted from resilient material carried by the sleeveand hnvin its free end reforming a continuation thereof, and saiid projecting horizontally from .ags
ed member and movable member being formed to provide a finger engaging manipulating portion ion the purpose described.
' In testimony whereof I eflix my signature;"
