Description

B. G. [1m/0E, T. ROGERS s. .1. c. BEALS.
Compound implement.
Patented Jan. 9, i872.
l @7mm Harder 13 UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
BENJAMIN G. DEVOE, TIMOTHY ROGERS, AND JOHN C. BEALS, OF FREDER- ICKTOWN, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOUND IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,577, dated January 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, BENJAMIN G. DEVOE, TIMOTHY ROG-Ens, and J OEN C. BEALs, of Fredericktown, in the county of Knox and in the State of Ohio, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements in Compound Implement; and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, ret'- erence being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in a couipound implement, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In Order to enable others skilled in the artto which Our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referringgto the annexed drawing, in whichi Figure 1 is afront view, Fig. 2, a rear view, and Fig. 3, a longitudinal vertical section of our implement.
A represents a plate of `any suitable dimensions, having a small looking-glass, B, at its upper end. On the back of the plate A is a pin, O, so that it may be used as a shawl-pin. Across the face of the plate A at the lower edge and also belowT the glass B are metal straps D D, or the lower strap may be formed by the turning up of the lower edge of the plate. The two straps D D form a holder for a ticket, and upon either one of said straps is attached a plate,E, with the name of the owner or wearer upon it, so that if for any reason it should become necessaryhe may be identified. On one side at the lower end of the plate A is attached a pencil-Sharpener, G, and above the same is a loop, H, forming a holder for the pencil. On the back of the plate A is attached a piece of sand-paper, I, or other suitable niaterial, for the purpose of striking matches on the same.
This instrument is designed to be used by passengers on railroad cars, steam-boats, &c., and can be used wherever a ticket has to be carried; also to hold a pencil, and at the same time to keep the point in the case of the sharpener, so that, it' required, the pencil can be sharpened immediately without removing from the pencil-holder. The match-striker is ready to be used ilnmediately, and also the lookingglass.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire tO secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an article of manufacture the within-described compound implenient, consisting of the plate A with looking-glass B, pin O, ticketholder l), identifier E, pencil-sh arpen er G, holder H, and match-striker I, all arranged and constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that lwe claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 6th day of December, 1871.
BENJAMIN G. DEVOE. TIMOTHY ROGERS. JOHN G. BEALS.
