To all whom it may concern:
. Beit known that I, CHARLES Ronnivnaueii, a citizen of the United States of America, re`
` sidin at Pittsburgh, county of Allegheny,
and tate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain newy and usefull Improvements inv Trusses, of `which the following is a specification. i
` struction, combination andarran This invention relates to trusses andflias for its object to provide" a device of suoliy class, with means in a manner as hereinafter set forth to overcome inconvenience and annoyance when wearing the truss.
n A further object of the invention is to provide a truss having meansin a manner as hereinafter set forth,
trucan be worn with ease and'comfort.
Further objects provide aF truss simple light, adjustable1 eicient and convenient in its use, `readily positioned, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view `theinventionconsists of the novelcon ementiof parts,4 `as hereinafter more speci scribed `and illustrated in the accompanying can ybe resorted to which come through the plate and inclosing plate removed;
:Figf isa like view of the body portion of Fig.6 isa longitudinal sectional view i center of the truss. i
Referring to the drawing in detail 1 denotes` the i truss body `and 2 mentfor section `of the truss.
`The truss body is formed of an outer hol capable of shiftingAl with the movements ofthe body so that the `of the,` invention are to l which is rcomparativelyl inl its construction, strong, durable,`
cally de- `cavity 5 and sec'urediin position by `screws or 1 fes" is rounded, it Iis maintained; inposition by the rocker elelow section 3 andan inner shiftable section` 4. The `hollow section-3 is substantially oval-shape; in cross-section and` providesy a cavity 5 for "the section 4 and thef` connection f thereof witlithe sectionui.`
Thegsecti 3 at its'topisfformed with "'a' pair of', laterallyv i apertured extensions y6, 7, andthe openingsfineach" of said sections are indicatedy at 8 and are adapted'to receive supporting straps'for `the truss body 1. `The extension 7 is formed with a vertically da` posed lip 9 for a purpose to be presently referred to. l i i Tliesection 3 is constructed-of light vniel tallic` material' andl is somewhat frusto coni-y lcal in contour and liasits outer face,as well,`
as its bottomiand its inner face inclosed by a strip of soft material, as` at 10. The materiallO is preferably.v chamois skin and proi vides a cushion. If desiredjhowevemanadditionalpacking ican be interposed between the strip 10,; Land the metallic part `of thefsec-y tion 3. The strip'lO` uponthe outer face of the section 3 extends tothe projections, 7
' and ismaintained imposition upontheouter A face of the section` 3 by binding wire 11, which is inclosed by a leather band 12. The strip 10 is maintained "against'the bot'- inner face thereof,by aretaining vp1ate13 wliichis arranged against the top wall of a rivets'r 14. The plate'gl, connection with the wil-e311, tightly maintains the strip 10 in, position against the metallicl part "of the` section v3. i i y l i.
As theztop ofthe section 3 and plate 15 the screws 14 and also screws 16. y `The late 15, centrally thereof,y is` providedwit an opening 17 whichregisterswith anjopeni-ngxy i 18 `in the top of the cavity f5". The opening 18"registers with an opening 19 formedl in" the strip A10and said` opening 19\registers withan opening'Q() provided in the plate The plate 15 1s cut-away at each endgas at i `21, so `as not to overlap the "opening 8 in the y,
yr face of vthe isadiskQQ projections 6,y fl', and be free of Fixedly secured `tothe up plate 15 over'` the. opening having estrella disposed Openingiwth the -wallfthereof threaded, Formed integraly `tom of thesectionf, aswell as against the 'ment with the threads of the Wall o with the plate 15 and arranged parallel with the disk 22 is a pair of vertically disposed lugs 23, each provided with an aperture 24 for a purpose to be presently referred to.
The section 4 is formed with light metallic material and is inclosed by a flexible -strip 25, preferably of chamois, although an other suitable material can be employed. It will also be stated that, if desired, a soft packing can be interposed between the strip 25 and the metallic portion of the Vsection 4. The strip 25 completely incloses the metallic portion of the section 4 and is maintained in position by a retaining plate 2G arranged at thetop of the section 4 and secured in position by screws 27. The plate 26 has a pocket 28 which communicates with an opening 29 arranged centrally of the plate 26.
The section 4 is of a size to be clear of the wall of the cavity 5 `so that the said section 4 can shift therein when desired, as well as being vertically adjustable within said cavity 5. The section 4 incl des means for vertically adjusting it, as well as suspending it, within the cavity 5. Said means consists of a vertically disposed screw 30, having its head 31 arranged within the pocket 28. The head 31 being materially less in size than the pocket 28 so' that the section 4 can shift upon said head when desired. The opening 29 in the plate26 is of slightly greater diameter than the diameter of the screw 30.
Mounted upon the screw 30, as well as engaging therewith, is an adjusting member 32, which has a reduced peripherally threaded extension 33, having threaded en agethe opening 23. The adjusting member 32 extends up through the openings 17, 18, 19 and 20.
The rocker section 2 comprises a base plate 34 which has its lower face inclining downwardly from each end toward the center and said base plate 34, centrally thereof, is formed with an opening 35 to provide a clearance for the disk 22, screw 30 and reduced threaded extension of the adjusting member 32. The sides of the base plate 34 are cut-away, as at 36 and into said cutaway portions extend the lugs 23. j The base plate 34 is pivotall connected with the lugs 23 by the pivots 3 Connected to the upper face of the base plate 34, by securing devices 38, 'are retaining springs 39. Mounted over the straps or springs 39 for concealing those ends which are connected to the base plate 34 i s a plate 40, having an opening 41. The plate 40 is inclosed by a cover plate 42.
The lip 9 is employed to prevent pinching of the flesh when the body 1 moves relatively to the body 2 or vice versa.
The manner of connecting the body 11 to the section 2 permits of' the shifting thereof so as not to cause any annoyance to the wearer when using the truss, or in other` words so that the truss can be worn with ease and comfort.
