`IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED TOOLS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,443, dated January 2, 18752.`

Specification describing a new and Improved Combined Tool, invented by JOHN W. OUR- RIER, of Newbury, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont.

This invention consists in the combination in'one instrument of the following tools, viz.: a belt or eyelet-punch, can-opener, pipe-tongs, pliers, screw-driver, nail-puller, wire-cutting device, and wrenches, as hereinafter fully set forth.

1 Referring to the drawing, A is the handle of the instrument, terminating at its upper end into forks B and C. `l) is a lever passing through a slot in the fork B and carrying at its upperA end a conical tubular' punch, E, which, in connection with the inner side of the fork B, forms the belt-punch. F is another lever passing through a vslot in the fork'C and provided near its upper end with a concavity, G, having a serrated face, wlnch,1n conjunction with a simi larserrated concavity, H, in the inner face of the fork C, forms the pipe-tongs, or means for holding and manipulating cylindrical objects. The inner faces I of the extreme outer ends of the lever F and fork C form two jaws to serve as a pair of pliers. K L represent two cuttingblades attached, respectively, .to the lever F and fork G and forming shears for cutting wire, &c. M is a hammer-head form-ed on the outer side of thefork G. N are elongated slots fornied in the body ofthe handle, which slots increase in width from one end to the other and are designed to serve as wrenches for operation upon articles of various diameters and for the specific objects to be hereinafter mentioned. O represents a cork-screw, which is hinged within one of the slots, so that when the same is not in use it can be folded ,into the same so as to leave no portion of the screw projecting above the surface ofthe handle, and yet will not prei vent the slot from being used as a wrench when the cork-screw is turned to avertical position.

P is a detachable socket, of a square or other A shape, which is inserted into the lower slot and secured in position by means of a button, Q, which, when turned transversely of the slot, will retain the socket in. place, and when turned in an opposite direction will allow of the same being entirely removed, so as not to interfere with the operation of the other implements. The object forwhich said socket is designed is to afford a simple and ready means for turning the nuts of carriage-hubs, It represents a screw-driver attached to the lower end of the handle. S is a tacleclaw or nail-puller, projecting at right ngles from the latter and located at one side of the handle. T is a curved and pointed blade located at the opposite side of the handle and intended to serve as a device for opening sheet-metal cans.
