GEORGE BARRY.
` lmprovment in Filler Boxes for Cigar Makers.c No'l Patented DBC. 26,1871- /////////L[/J/.//////////l///7l//// r 44AM UNITED STATES GEORGE BARRY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FlLLER-BOXES FCR ClGAR-MAKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,211, dated December 26, 1,871.
I, GEORGE BARRY, of Chicago, in the county of Oook'a'nd State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Gigar-Makers Filler-Box, of which the following is a specification:
The present invention relates to an improved box, which is to be used by cigar-makers, to hold that kind of tobacco which is used in making the illers of cigars; and the object is to prevent cigar-makers from assortin g the tobacco and using the larger leaves or parts lirst and afterward using the finer parts, thereby makin g ei gars of different qualities of the tobacco furnished instead of one quality, as necessarily the case when the present invention is used. Its nature consists in the use of a tapering box or inverted truncated conical tub, which is provided with a suitable door to admit the hand and close the box and ykeep the tobacco damp when it is to stand over, and with a screen at the bottom to allow sand and dirt to escape as the tobacco is being pulled out and used.
In the draWing, Figure l is a perspective representation of my improved cigar-makers fillerbox; Fig. 2, a plan view of the screen and bottom of box; Fig. 3, a section of Fig. l on line x.
A B F represent the sides and ends of the box, the lower ends of Which are tapered so as to make the bottom of the box the smallest, as clearly shown. O represents the cover of the box, which is readily removable for the convenience of putting in tobacco. I represents a hand-hole, made through the side A for the convenience of pulling out such quantities of tobacco as may be needed from time to time to make fillers or'. A sliding door, H, is made to close the opening I when the box is to stand for some time or over night With tobacco in it. When the operator is at work the door is held up by means of a hook and staple, G.. In order to provide means for separat-ing sand and dirt from the leaf tobacco as it is drawn down toward the hand-hole I, a portion, J, of the bottom E is cut away and covered with perforated plate. D or Wire screen, as most suitable, the bottom being thick enough to provide room for the sand and dirt coming from one filling of tobacco.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The tapering box A B F, provided with cover G, bottom E,door H, and screen D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. GEORGE BARRY.
