- My invention relates to pump valves, more particularly booster valves for the sucker rod for bored wells, and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a valve of this class to be used in connection with the ordinary well casing and sucker rod to assist the regular valve in raising the liquid in the casing; second, to provide a valve structure of this class which may be readily used in connection with the ordinary or conveiiM tional sucker rods and the ordinary or coitatiional well casing; third, to provide a valve of this class which may be mounted at any of the several oints of the sucker rod as desired; fourth, to provide a device of this class which has a tendency to catch the sand and heavier materials and carry it upwardly with the liquid, and fifth, to provide a device of this class which is simple and economical of construction, durable, easily installed, and will not readily get out of order.

To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that l, Emvnnn F. Dinnirs, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented` certain new and useful Improvements in Fump--Valves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to pump valves, more particularly booster valves for the sucker rod for bored wells, and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide a valve of this class to be used in connection with the ordinary well casing and sucker rod to assist the regular valve in raising the liquid in the casing; second, to provide a valve structure of this class which may be readily used in connection with the ordinary or conveiiM tional sucker rods and the ordinary or couventional well casing; third, to provide a valve of this class which may be mounted at any of the several oints of the sucker rod as desired; fourth, to provide a device of this class which has a tendency to catch the sand and heavier materials and carry it upwardly with the liquid, and fifth, to provide a device of this class which is simple and economical of construction, durable, easily installed, and will not readily get out of order.
With these and'other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this specification, in which:

Fig. 2 is a side elevational View of the valve mechanism and a similar fragmentary View of the sucker rod and not showing the casing in connection therewith and showing the valve in the position of the upward stroke and showing by dotted lines its position on the downward stroke. Fig. 3 is a bottom View of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 a top View thereof.

The casing l is the ordinary or conventional bore dwell casing and the rod sections 2 and 3 are also of the ordinary or conventional type, the rod section 2 being provided with a socket 2a threaded internally to receive the externally threaded portion 3a of the rod section 3, said rod section 3 is provided with a shoulder 3b and the ring 4 is mounted over this threaded portion 3 and rests on the shoulder 3b and the socket is screwed thereon, the end of said socket engaging with the top surface of said washer, thus rigidly securing said washer between said shoulder 3" and the end of the socket 2n. This ring 4 is smaller than the inside diameter of' the casing l. above this ring 4 and around the socket 2 is another ring 5, the inside diameter of said ring being slightly larger than the outside diameter of the said socket leaving clearance between the socket and the ring. This ring 5 is provided with a plurality of notches 5a in its inner edge for the passage of liquid through the inner edge of said ring. Mounted below the ring 4 and around the rod section 3 is another ring '7 which lits loosely the rod section leaving slight clearance therein. rlhis ring 7 is provided with a plurality of notches 7 in its outer edge adapted to permit the passage of liquid through the outer edge of said ring. These two rings 5 and 7 are connected together near their outer edges by means of a plurality of pins 6 which are preferably provided with reduced ends inserted through said rings and riveted on their outer sides.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I do not wish to be liniited t0 this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the purview of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a valve which will assist in raising liquids. As the liquid will pass through the notches '2'a and between the outer edge of the ring 4 and the inner side of the casing l and through the notches 5a in the inner edge of the ring 5 when the sucker rod is on the downward stroke and when said rod is on the upward stroke the ring 5 Mounted willl seat against the upper surface of the ring t as shown in F ig. 2 of the drawings, thus closing the notches 5a and'carrying the liquid upwardly with said upward stroke, Y
Y combination witha conventional casing and sucker rods vof a ring secured between the two connecting sections of said sucker rod, a pair of rings secured together by means of a plurality of connecting pieces disposed on opposite Vsides of said ring, the upper one being provided with a plurality of passage ports in its inner edge and the lower one pro-vided with a plurality of passage ports in its' outer edge.
2. Inra device ory theclass described, the combination with the conventional well casing and sucker rod of a ring slightly smaller than the inner surface of said casing secured in the joint between two sections of said pump rod, a pair of rings spaced apart on opposite sides'oil said ring, the upper one provided with a plurality of slots in its inner edge and the lower one provided with means for permitting the passage of oil between a portion of said ring and said casing.
3. In a device of the class described, the combinationof a casing, a sucker rod comprising a socket portion internally threaded and a threaded shank portion adapted to screw therein, a ring secured between the end of said socket portion and Said shank portion considerably smaller in diameter than the inner surface of said casing, a ring mounted in said casing above said irst mentioned ring provided with means for permitting the passage of liquid at its inner edge, another ring mounted below said first mentioned ring provided with a plurality of notches in its outer surface adapted to permit the passage of liquid and means for connecting the last two mentioned rings together.
