Description

(2m Model.)
Patented Aug. 8
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH ONEIL, or TAYLORSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
VALVE FOR OIL-W ELL PUMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,750, dated August 8, 1893. Application filed March 6, 1893- Serial No. 464,881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPHOFN EIL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taylorstown, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valves for Oilcombination of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved valve which is constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing a portion of the sucker cups attached in position at the lower end. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is a sectional plan view taken on the line XX of Fig. 1. Fig. 4. is an enlarged sectional .view taken through one of the valve openings, showing the means of holding the washers therein.
To put my invention into practice I provide a casting 2 having an internal opening 8, a recess 1, formed at either side, a squareportion 3 for applying a wrench, a male threaded portion 5 at the top to connect the same to the sucker rods, and a female thread formed at the base of the opening 8, to attach the same to the sucker cups 6. Formed in the recess 1 are two or more openings 7 com- 12, attached to the casting.
municating with the interior, and each of the saidopenings surrounded with annular recesses 9, having inwardly tapering sides, whereby a flexible washer 10, after being forced in position will remain fast. These openings 7 are covered by a plate 11, held loosely in position by means of a fiat spring 13, which in its turn is held by a short post This spring is prevented from turning by one end entering a recess 14 formed at the base of the square portion 3. This valve thus constructed is 0perated in the working barrel in the same manner as those now in common use, and being simple in its construction will not get out of repair.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The herein described working check valve for oil and other pumps, consisting of the shell 2, having a recess 1 formed at one or more sides of the same, the valve openings 7 formed in the said recess, the washers 1O surrounding said valve, the annular recesses 9 having inwardly tapering sides to confine the said washers, the plate 11 covering the said valve openings, the spring 13 and means for holding the same in position, and means for preventing the said spring from turning, all arranged and combined for service, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto aflix my signature this 10th day of December, A. D.' 1892.
JOSEPH ONEIL. [L. 8.]
