To all whom it may concern: Y i
Be it known that 1, James L. BROWN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Rockport, in the county of Ohio, Stateof Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVarm-Air Accumulators and Distributers; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such.
as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the 7 same.
This invention relates to Warm'air accumulators and distributors and particularly that type adapted for use in connection with open fireplaces.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of the character referred to which will serve to maintain the passage of a current of air through a casing disposed in an open fireplace and discharge the same into the room or into a pipe for conveyance to a distant point after such air fire place having the invention associated therewith,
Fig. 2 a section on the line.22 of Fig. 1 with the device removed from the fireplace illustrated in Fig. 1,
Fig. ,3 a section on the l ne 33 of F g. 2, Fig. 4a section on the line 4-'l= of Fig. 2, looking upward,
Fig. 5 a view of upper end of what is shown in Fig. 2 with the sliding closure removed, and
Fig. 6, a4 detail perspective view of the sliding closure. 0
Referring to the drawings A indicates an open fire place and B a grate disposed therein which is adapted to support the fire in the usual and well known manner.
The warm air accumulator and distributer is shown as comprising a U-shaped casing O which includes arms 10 and 11 and an WARM-slit ACCUMULATOB. AND :DlSTBIBUTE Specification of Letters Patent.
arm connecting port on The interior of the arms 10 andll; ancl;.-,the;portion .12 all connect so as to 'formqonfe continuous passage. Supported between tl1e;.'.arm's 10 and 11 is a hollow, fire bafck lfigtheru ppei end of which is disposed i'lijiSPZl'GQCl' relation to the portion 12 of the icasing v Thetinterior of the fire back 31 is;icbnnectedrtoifthe interior of the arm, y nieansvofiaiertically alined openings ligandiilo'.:forniedcin said arm 10. Likewise the interior of the fire back 13 is connected with the interiorof the arm 11 of the casing C by means of vertically alined openings 16 and 17. The interior of the arm 10 isalso in communication with the outside atmosphere through the medium of a pipe 18 mounted in the outer side of said arm and disposed below the opening let. Likewise theinterior of the arm 11 is in communication with the outside atmosphere through the medium of a pipe 19 mounted in the outer side of said arm. The front side of the portion 12 of the casing C is provided with an opening 20 which is adapted to be closed by the insertion of a sliding closure 21 into the interior of said portion 12. Another opening 22 is formed in the top wall of the portion 12 and has engaged therein one end of a pipe 23 by means of which warm air from the interior of the casing C may be conveyed to rooms located above that in which the fireplace A is disposed.
In the use of the device the same is placed in the fireplace A with the outer walls of the arms 10 and 11 in spaced relation to the adjacent walls of the fireplace. The'grate B is then disposed in the fireplace A in the usual manner. During the burning of the fire upon the grate'B cold air will enter from the outside of the room into the interior of the arms 10 and 11 through the pipes 18 and 19 respectively. The pure fresh air entering the interior of the arms 10 and 11 will in part pass to the interior of the fire back 13 through the openin s 15 and 17 respectively where it will be e ciently heatedr This heated air will then pass through the openings 1d and 16 to the upper portions of the interior of the arms 10 and 11 and thence to the interior of the portion 12 from where it will be dischargedin which the fireplace A is disposed it is only necessary to remove the sliding closure 2 1 and close the pipe23 when the heated air will be discharged through the opening 20 and will force the imipure air to be carried off through the open ,What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, a hollow casing formed to provide spaced parallel arm portions connected together at one end by a connecting portion and adapted to be inserted withm the fireplace in inverted position with the said arms in close proximity toand extending above the grate thereof, and with said connecting portion spaced above said grate, a hollow substantially shallow fireback connecting said arms throughout the major portion of their extent, the said fireback being spaced at its replace.
'upper end downwardlyyfrom said connecting with the interior 0 said arms, a cold air inlet pipe connected to each of the arms adjacent its lower end, and a hot air discharge pipe leading from- 'the connecting portion. 1
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES L. BROWN.
