FILLMORE BUSHEY, OF ST. ALBANS, VERMONT.
RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2 0, 1917.
Original application filed September 13, 1915, Serial No. 50,460. Divided and this application filed August 2,
1916. Serial No. 112,779.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FILLMORE BUSHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Albans, in the county of Franklin, State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.-
This invention relates to a razor blade support and is divided out of my copending application No. 50,460 filed September 13 1915.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a support ofthis character by means of which the razor blades may be held in place during the sharpening of the said blades by the machine claimed in the above named application.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a support which is so constructed that the blade may be readily put in place or removed.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a device which will support the blades so that they will move only in predetermined and definite arcuate paths.
lVith these and other objects in view, such as will appear as my description progresses, my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claims:
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention showing the blade holder in position within the clamping member,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clamping member.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing includes a clamping member 1 which is made of resilient sheet metal. The body portion of this clamping member is bent, as at 2, so that it is of angular form. The body portion is provided with a plurality of openings 3 through which suitable fasteners may pass to secure the clamping member to a rocking bar such as illustrated in the above referred to appli cation, which bar is indicated conventionally in this drawing by the reference character l. One end of this clamping member 1 is bifurcated and the resultant legs 5 and 6 are bent back upon the body portion in spaced relation to the. same and to each other. These legs are resilient and are therefore movable to and away from the body portion and each leg is provided with a housing 7 of substantially semi-cylindrical form, entrance to which may be had from the under faces of the legs. The extremities 8 of these legs are turned upwardly, that is to say, away from the body portion. The opposite end of the clamping member is likewise bifurcated producing a pair of legs 9 and 10, each of which legs is bent back upon the body portion, as at 11, and thence backwardly over thepo-rtion 11, as at 12, having upturned extremities 13.
A blade holder is provided, which holder consists of an elongated shank 14 one end of which is cut away to form a jaw 15 having a recess 16 extending transversely thereof. A second and removable jaw 17 is provided which has a recess 18 cooperating with the recess 16 and is secured to the jaw 15 by means of a thumb nut 19. Extending from the sides of the shank 1 1 at a point substantially midway between the ends of the shank are pins 20 and extending parallel to these pins are pins 21 which are arranged between the pins 20 and the handle end of the shank. As illustrated in the drawing the diameter of the pins 20 is slightly greater than that of the pins 21.
l/Vhen the blade holder is in place upon the clamping member the shank will extend between the legs 5 and 6 and also between the legs 9 and 10 and the pins 20 will be arranged in the housings 7 being held in clamped relation by these legs 5 and 6. The pins 21 will be located at the junction between the portions 11 and 12 of the legs 9 and 10. By this arrangement the holder may be very readily put in place upon the clamping member and when in place will permit the blade carried thereby to move only in a predetermined and definite arcuate path since the legs 5 and 6 and the legs 9 and 10 will prevent any relative movement between the holder and the clamping memher. Furthermore the holder may be readily placed upon the clamping member because of the particular arrangement of the pins on the holder and the legs on the clamping member.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, it has merely been for the sake of convenience and I do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A razor blade support comprising a clamping member including a pair of spaced resilient legs at one end, a second pair of spaced resilient legs at the other end, a blade holder including a shank mounted on the clamping member and located between and removably engaging the members of each pair of legs and means for securin a blade in said holder, said blade holder being held in operative position when the shank is resiliently engaged by said legs.
2. In a razor blade support, the combina tion with a clamping member including a body portion having spaced resilient legs on each end thereof, of a blade holder having pairs of pins removably engaged by said legs.
3. In a razor blade support, the combination with a clamping member including an angular body portion having pairs of spaced legs on the ends thereof, of a blade holder removably mounted on said clamping member and having a shank extending between the legs thereof, and pins on said shank engaged by the said legs in such manner that the relative movement of the holder and the clamping member will be prevented.
In testimony whereof, I afix my signa ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
FILLMORE BUSHEY.
