OIL-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, i il'is.
Application filed May 9, 1916. Serial No. 96,383.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Anon L. DORMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cuba, in the county of Republic and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Burners, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved oil burner for vaporizing and burning crude and other oils, the object of the invention being to provide an improved burner of this type Which is simple in construction, which ellccts a thorough combustion of the oil, producing little or no soot, gas, or smell, which requires but little attention, is extremely durable and is not likely to get out of order.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figu my invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the same on a larger scale.
Fig. 3 is a detail transverse sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 2.
An oil feed pipe 1 leads from a gravity feed oil tank 2 and said oil feed pipe is provided With a cut-off valve 3. A pair of burners 4 are here shown as connected to the oil feed pipe. A valve 3 is provided for each burner as Will be understood. Each burner comprises a length of pipe, preferably galvanized iron, and of suitable size and is bent to form an arched portion 5, an intake arm 6, and a terminal, horizontally arranged burner arm 7 Said burner arm has a plug 8 in its outer end and is provided in its upper side at a suitable distance from its outer end With a small opening 9 for the escape of the gas or vapor. In practice, this opening is preferably one-forty-seeond of an inch in diameter.
A starting orgenerating pan 10 is sus-v pended from each burner arm,'-at a, point below the opening 9. The upper portion of Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the re 1 is an elevation of an oil burner, constructed and arranged 1n accordance With 7 the arched vaporizing burner, supports a flame spreader 11 which is suspended therefrom and is arranged above the opening 9. I
To start the burner in operation, the valve 3 is first opened to cause oil to drop from the opening 9 into the pan 10. When a small quantity of oil is thus accumulated in the pan, the valve 3 is then closed and the oil in the pan ignited. The flame thus generated, heats the arched portion of the burner pipe to a high degree. The valve 3 is then reopened, thus admitting oil to the heated burner pipe and the oil as it passes through the burner pipe is converted into vapor andis discharged from the opening 9. The flame produced by the burning of the gas or vapor, strikes the spreader and is spread thereby and hence, all parts of the burner pipe are kept heated and the burner may be kept in continuous operation as long as desired, and according to the quantity of oil in the tank.
The burner may be arranged in the fire box of a cook stove and used for cooking purposes or may be arranged in a heating stove ii desired, and may be used for heating purposes.
I-Iaving described the invention, What is claimed is:
An oil burner comprising a reservoir, an oil feed pipe leading from the reservoir, a plurality of burner pipes each connected directly to and leading from said oil feed pipe, each of said burner pipes having a valve, and alsohaving an arch vaporizing portion and aterminal burner arm below said vaporizing portion, said arm being closed at its outer end and being provided in its upper side With aminute gas escape opening, a gas spreader extending from the arched portion of each burner pipe and a priming pan suspended "from the arm of each burner pipe and arranged under the said opening thereof.
In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature.
