J'OZEF HW'ALEK, OF GLOBE VILLAGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
WINDOW-SHADE BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Application filed August 28, 1916. Serial No. 117,220.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Joznr I-IWALEK, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Globe Village, in the county of lVorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in vVindow-Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in window shade brackets.
The primary object of the. invention is the provision of a bracket adapted for supporting a shade roller in operative position forwardly of a window, the said bracket being readily attached to and removed from the window casing.
A further object of the device is the provision of a bracket that is easy and inexpen sive to manufacture having a resilient retaining means for removably positioning the bracket in the desired position upon a window casing.
It will be understood that while the present device is illustrated in connection with a window shade, the same may be readily adapted for supporting a curtain pole adjacent a window.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper portion of a window provided with the present device having a window-shade supported thereby.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of a portion of a window casing showing one of the devices attached thereto.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the same, and,
Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the device mounted upon the casing.
The present device being designed as a supporting bracket for positioning members adjacent a window, the same is herein lllllS- trated in connection with a casing 10 having the usual form of sash 11 arranged therein.
The present bracket broadly consists of a sheet metal plate 12 elongated in form and having a receiving socket or notch 13 open at the top ad acent one end thereof, a coil spring 14. being arrangedupon the plate for attaching one of the said brackets in parallel relations adjacent the upper opposite cor- 11ers of the casing 10.
The rear end of the plate 12 has an upper tapered side 15, the said end terminating in a downwardly-extending claW 16 adapted to be embedded in the top edge 17 of the casing.
The spring 14 is formed of a single piece of wire having its central portion formed in a loop 18 freely positioned through a perforation 19 in the rear portion of the plate. The spring 1% is arranged with opposite open coils 2O frictionally positioning the plate 12 therebetween while a spindle 21 extends through the said plate projecting within the enlarged openings 22 of the said coils. Divergent bent legs 23 extend from the coils 20 and have pointed terminal ends 24 adapted to be embraced within the forward face of the casing 10.
In applying the present form of bracket, the plate 12 is grasped in the hand and the terminals 24: pressed into the casing 10 and the claw 16 of the plate 12 forced rear- 7 wardly over the casing, the said claw being depressed within the upper face 17 thereof when the legs 23 and coils 20 are under tension. The diameter of the coils 20 being greater than that of the spindle 21 allows the spindle ends to be positioned at the top of the coils 20 when the latter are under their greatest tension and to slightly relax when the spindle seats itself at the bottoms of the coils 20 in its operative position with the plate 12 arranged horizontally with its lower edge seated upon the top of the casing. It being understood that one of the brackets is positioned at each end of the casing 10 at the top thereof. a shade roller upon which the shade 25 is arranged has its oppositely projecting trunnions 26 operatively mounted in the receiving notches 13 thereof.
A shade bracket is therefore provided which is of simple construction and is readily arranged in its operative position while shades, curtains and other draperies may be readily supported thereby in substantially the usual manner. 7
' What I claim as new is l. A shade bracket comprising a support- 1 through the said perforation and having window-casing engaging sharpened tenninal ends, and a spindle carried by the said plate freely engaged with the said spring when operatively positioned.
2. A device of the class described coniprising in combination with a window casing, a sheet metal plate positioned thereon and having a rear claw embedded therein, a wire spring having a central loop passing through the said plate and arranged with coils in axial alineinent with each other trictionally engaging the opposite sides of the plate, a spindle projecting through the said plate and arranged within the said coils the said spindle being of less diameter than the coils, and downwardly-diverging feet carried by the said coils provided Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
with sharpened terminals embedded within the forward face of thecasin 3. A device of the class described comprising an elongated supporting plate having a downwardly-extending claw at its rear end and provided with a perforation adja cent the said claw; a spindle transversely secured through the said plate forwardly of the said perforation, a spring centrally looped through the said perforation and having opposite coils surrounding the said spindle and being of greater diameter than the latter, diverging legs carried by the said coils and having sharpenedengaging free ends operatively positioned with respect to the said claw; V
, In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
