Description

c. A--. KRAMER. TOOL FOR USE BY PAPER HANGERS. APPLICATIONRILED APR.13, 1916.
Patentd Mar. 13, 1917.
. wmmummmw Edna) CHARLES A. KRAMER, OF CURRAN, ILLINOIS.
TOOL FOR, USE BY PAPER-HANGERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Application filed April 13, 1916. Serial No. 90,943.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES A. KRAMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Curran, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Use by Paper-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref
erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tools for paper hangers use and it has for its object the provision of a simple and practical paper weight adapted to serve to hold the sheet of paper while being cut, the device being provided with a suitable operating-handle and with cutting edges so disposed as to serve as a means for readily tearing or cutting the paper, the outer edges of the device being provided with a scale for use in indicating points at which the paper is to be severed. v
To this end and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel form of the device, as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawing and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a roll" applied of wall paper with my device thereto.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same. Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numeral, 1 is a roll of wall or other paper, partly unrolled. 2 isa'plate, the same comprising a concavo-convex metallic body portion rectangular in form. Both sides and ends of the device form cutting edges and the device is sufficiently heavy to'form a substantial weight to hold the paper to the paste table. The device is provided with a suitable handle 3 and along its side and ends is provided with scales 4: and 5.
In operation, the paper to be operated upon is placed upon the table. The amount required for use 'is unrolled and the device 2 is then placed upon the paper to be out, the same being held firmly with the left hand, while with the right hand a few inches of the paper adjacent to the portion to be severed is unrolled. An upward movement of the paper by the right hand will serve to bring it into contact with the cutting edge of the plate where the paper will be severed along the line of the cutting edge of the device which, after the paper has been severed, the weight serves to hold the strip from rolling while another strip is placed upon the table.
It will be noted also that the form of the device is such that it is adapted for use in splitting strips lengthwise and in many other ways where quick and accurate work is required by the paper hanger in cutting pieces to meet certain requirements.
What I claim to be new is A paperhangers tool comprising an elongated plate, internally concaved with curved ends, said plate being rectangular outlined and the edges thereof in the same plane, said plate being provided with a centrally disposed handle, the convexed surface of the plate having a scale extending entirely about the edge thereof.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. KRAMER. Witnesses: 1
MILTON M. BRADLEY, GEO. DAVIDSON.
