My invention relates to trusses such as are used in the treatment of hernia and similar diseases, and has for its chief purpose to provide a novel construction and arrangement of parts that readily permits of proper adjustment, so as to intimately engage the' spot or area of the body to be treated, and to effect the necessary amount of pressure, while at the same time permitting a nice resiliency or yieldability of the engaging pad in order to accommodate any position of the body without discomfort. ject of my invention is to afford a structure that can be worn with comfort and ease, and

A further purpose of the invention is to afford an improved means for holding the pressure pad at all times in proper relation to the body after it is once adjusted. K To these and other ends the invention resides in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

The spring 9 carries at its ends pivoted loops or connections l0 which receive the aforesaid spring 3, thereby permitting said springs to be lflexed with relation to each other and also permitting relative endwise movement. The

The particularV arrangement of springs which I have shown contribute to afford an extremely efficient support for the pad, which is always held by a constant, even pressure, and permits perfectly free movement of thebody under all conditions, without affecting the proper action of the pad.

In trusses of this general type, it has been usual to employ a supplemental .strap passing downwardly, and between the legs, from the front to the rear of the belt, in order to prevent the latter from working upwardly about the body and it is my purpose to eliminate the use of such supplemental retaining strap, and to substitute a more effective and more advantageous means for retaining the pad in proper position, which is accomplished in the following manner. 11 designates a retaining member which may be in the form of a plate of leather or other flexible material of suitable configuration and adapted to be' adhesively secured to the body. To this end, the retaining member may be provided on its interior surface with an adhesive portion 12, which is first positioned over the spot to which the truss pad is to be applied and retained there by the action of the adhesive material. The retaining member 11 is detachably connected with the truss pad preferably by a bend and socket oint, although any other detachable connection may be successfully employed. rlhe retaining member ll carries a plate 13 on which is formed a head or projection 14 arranged to engage a socket on the pad. For this purpose, the latter has secured to its operative face a metal plate l5, piovi'iled with an opening 16, enlarged at one end to receive the head lll, and reduced at thev other end in Order to hold the head 14 against relative displacement. With this arrangement, when the pad is positioned in the manner shown in Fig. l, upward movement thereof is prevented by reason of the engagement of the head 14- with the lower end of the opening 16, while to remove the parts, it is only necessary to push the pad slightly in a downward direction tobring the large end of the opening lepposite to the head 14:, after which the pad and retaining member can be separated. rlhe retaining member can bel removed. from the body if desirable when the pad is removed, and the adhesive surface 12 can be renewed as often as required.
