residing `flattened and enlarged and has i; 3 gaged with its opposite faces the of agitator rods 6. E `present instance comprises a inetaliir.: strap which is provided with a plurality ot perforations 7 therein in i U-shaped lably mounted upon the l `movement of lthe agitator, application of my improved device a barrel, 1 is rovided whirh in this nistance is of the vfthe Opening 2 or 3 of the barrel, so as to Patented Mar. 13, 19217' i of my improved mixing apparatus in two different Ways.
`The mixing apparatus coinprisesa eylin` dri'cal shaft or rod 4 one end. ii i which is itally en inner ends ach of said arios inthe order to permit the contents of` the receptacle lv to pass through said arms as the latter a're rotated ou the interior of the receptacle. The outer end of each ot' the arms 6 is depressinlinto a substantially contour and has a linger 8 formed on the outer fare o1 the free end thereof which in aline substantially roineiiflrnt withthe longitudinal axis of the body ol: the alrm. Each of said fingers S has a roller 9 journaled thereon, the peripluu'ies oi Said rollers being beveled so as to conform to the .inner }ieri]filn ir of the barrel when the latter -is disposed horizontally its illustrated in Figs. `l and E2. ItV is ot' course understood 80 that the periplierirs of these rollers will be made smooth and straight when they are to contact with a straight even surface. The roliers tl are held from casual displ nime t on the 'lingers' S by eotter pins or :il suitable means whioh will permit t' to be expeditiously removed ilii'oiii gers when so desired.
Agitator arms 1() are provided, ooi-i e 'id of each of which pivotally engaged ofthe arms 6, adjacent the depri' ond-of the latter, while the opposite i.- each is pivotally engagixd with the out riphery of a sleeve ll.
i1' The sleeve 11 :is slid shaft 4, so as to perniit the agitator arms 6 and l0 to be placed in 1various lpositions, consistent with the oonliguriition ot' lthe receptacle with which the' agitating ai'iparatus is associated. A set screw 12 is adjustably n'iounted within the sleeve 11 whereby the latter may be held et auf;r predetermined point upon the shaft 4, recesses 13 being; foi-ined. in eapid shaft, if desited, in order to preclude possibilityl of the sleeve being` accidentally displaced, during `A bushing 14 is slidably mounted upon the shaft 4: in superposed relation to the sleeve,, 11, and has a gland dependent therefrom" which is adapted for introduction through prevent displacement of the contents of the aoV 'removed from Y the openings into the position latter during movement of the agitator.` The bushing- 11 is held iii a locked position on the barrel through the medium of locking bolts and nuts 16.
Said bolts are rotatably mounted in the bushing 1l so as on to be moved into the path of the open1 ings 2 and 3, as shown in VFig. l, so asto enable the removal 'ofthe bushing from the barrel. v A suitable handle 17 is detachably mounted upon the upper terminal of the shaft t whereby rotation of the latter is facilitated for imparting movement to the agitator arms GV and 10. It will furthermore be noted that a hook member 18 is shown in Fig. 1, which is adapted for association with the set screw 1Q to permit the apparatus to be the barrel without placing the hand or hands on the interior of the lat.l tei', since the hook 1S the set screw into 2 or 3, to permit. manipulation of the screw by the hand of the ser, thereby allowing the agitator arms t be folded shown in Fig. l In voperation `therefore it will be appreciated that the apparatus may be associated with any type of receptacle, and may be conveniently used. with the standard type of barrel, in which instance it may be used when the barrel is disposed either vertically or horizontallylas illustrated to ad- -vantage in the drawings. In either instance, after the device has been secured in the vmanner above set `forth, pressure is exf erted upon the handle 17 so as to actuate the agitator arms, thereby stirring the contents of the barrel. It is of course understood that rollers 9 will greatly facilitate movement of the agitator arm.
to permit the heads therebe made within may be used to bring i such close proximity tol It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings coinprehcnd only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes iii detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may the scope of the appended claims and wit-hout sacrificing any of the advantages of mv invention. Y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to sccure by Letters Patent, `is1- 1. The combination with a receptacle, a mixing apparatus including a shaft mounted in the receptacle, agitating arms mounted on saidy shaft and in adjustable connection with the latter for` holding said arms at an angle, conforming to the contour of the ieceptacle, und means mounted on said arms tol engage the receptacle for facilitating.
movement of said arms.
2. 'In combination with a receptacle, a mixing apparatus including a shalt mounted .iii the receptacle, agitating arms, certain of which are in pivotal engagement with the inner end of said shaft, other of said arn'is being pivotally engaged withthe first mentioned arms, asleev'e slidably mountedon said shaft and in pivotal engagement with said second mentioned arma-whereby all of said arms may be simultaneously adjusted to conform to the contour of the receptacle, by movement of said sleeve, y and rollers mounted uponcertain of said arms, to facilitate movement of the latter.v
In testimony whereof I affix my lsignature in'presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. BRILLHART.
