DRINK-MIXER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3,1916.
Application filed October 25, 1915. Serial No. 57,778.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER M. PE'rrrFILs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drink-Mixers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a drink mixer in which the liquid contents of a receptacle are stirred and agitated by means of a mixing device operated by an electric motor.
It is an object of my invention to construct a mixer in which an electric motor rotates a .vertical shaft at whose lower extremity a mixing device is mounted. Below said mixing device is a pivoted support for the receptacle whose contents are to be mixed. The support is pivotally mounted to a bracket and is adapted to swing in a horizontal plane.
The drink mixers now commonly in use have a fixed support for the receptacle, and
' the stirrer shaft is mounted for reciprocal vertical movement so that the same may be 'nserted in said receptacle and removed therefrom. By my improved construction, the apparatus is simplified, no provision for reciprocal movement of the stirrer shaft being necessary.
My invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, I have illustrated a convenient and practical embodiment of my invention, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a horizontal cross-section taken on a plane and through the base of the apparatus, showing the receptacle support in its closed or operative position. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the receptacle support in its open position.
On a suitable support, such as a table or the like 10, an upright 11 is suitably secured. An electric motor 12 is mounted at the upper end of said upright, being secured thereto b bi' acket 13. A vertical stirrer shaft 14, pivoted to said motor, extends downwardly means of a circular-shaped band or.
therefrom to a point suitably spaced from the base of said upright. In order to avoid vibrations of the stirring element 15, which is mounted at the lower end of said shaft and which may be of any suitable or preferred construction, I have provided a shaft bearing 16 located at some distance below said motor and secured thereto by suitable connections 17. Extending horizontally from the base of the upright, a bracket 18 1s prov ded, the outer and middle portion of whlch is cut away to form a large curved recess 19 located below the stirring element 1: A receptacle stand or support 20 is plvoted at 21 to the upper face of one lateral end of the bracket 18. The support is provided at the end opposite from the pivoted end with an up-turned flange or lug 22, which constitutes a handle. The length of the support is such as to reach from the plvot 21 across the recess 19 to the "other lateral end of the bracket. The middle portion of the support is enlarged and has secured thereto a vertical circular flange or ring 23 adapted for the reception of a receptacle or glass 9. An electric switch 24, which may have the form of a pair of pushbuttons, is suitably secured on the support 10, whereby the electric 'motor 12 may be operated.
From the foregoing description, the operation of my improved electric drink mixer will be easily understood. WVhen it is desired to mix a drink, the receptacle support 20 is swung on its pivot to permit a receptacle or glass to be raised so that the stirrer shaft with the mixing element will enter the receptacle from above. The support is then swung in its closed position and the receptacle is lowered to fit into the retaining flange 23, as shown in Fig. 1. The electric switch is now closed to operate the stirring mechanism. After the contents of the receptacle have been sufliciently mixed, the receptacle is slightly raised, to disengage itfrom the retaining flange 23, the support 20 is swung out of the Way and the receptacle is vertically lowered to clear the stirring mechanism. v
It is obvious that various changes may be made by those skilled in the artwithout derecess below said stirring means, a receptaparting from the spirit of my lnvention as cle support extending across said recess claimed. pivoted to said bracket, said support being I claim: adapted to swing in a horizontal plane, and In a drink mixer, the combination of a receptacle'retaining means on said support. vertical shaft, a stirring means mounted at In testimony whereof I have signed my the lower end thereof, means for rotating name to this specification. said shaft, a bracket provided with a central WALTER M.
