R. A. MOWREY.
` DISPENSING GAN. APPLICATION IILBD 11113.27, 1913.
#1,079,793. Patented 11011.25, 1913.
RALPH A. Mowarnz,` 0F RIDGWAY, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPENSINGpAN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led Febuary27, 1913. lSerial N o. 751,12.-
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH A. MOWREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ridgway, in the county of Elk, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in `Dispensing-y Cans; and l do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rFhis invention is directed to improvements in dispensing cans, and particularly to one used for dispensing cream.
rf he invention has for its object to provide a device of this character having mounted therein an agitator which will thoroughly mix the cream each time the turning plug is operated to draw cream from the can.
lilith `these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction` formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view.' Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View through the device. Fig,
4 is a vertical central sectional view. Fig. is a sectional view on line 5 5 of Fig. 3. F 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of is' Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a can, the .same being preferably circular in 'cross section andhas formed in its bottom 2 a socket 3 in which is rotatably mounted the lower end of the agitator shaft 4. Carried by the agitator shaft 1 is a spiral blade 5, whereby when the shaftI 4 is rotated the blade 5 thoroughly mixes or agi-` tates the cream contained in the can.
A hollow cover 6 is provided for the can and has secured therein a bar 7, one end of which is provided with a flange Ssimilar to the flange 9 which is connected to the strip intermediate its ends, said flanges being adapted to fit into the, upper end of the can 1 to hold the cover 6 in place thereon.
Mounted upon the'strip 7 is a pair of spaced brackets 10, in which is journaled a horizontal shaft 11, the inner end of which has fixed thereto a beveled'gear 12, which meshes with a similar gear 13 fixed to the upper end of the shaft 11. The upper end of the shaft t is journaled in the strip 7, thus holding the saine in the can 1 Journaled in a suitable st-ulng box 14 mounted upon the strip -7 and adjacent the in its proper position with- Patented Nov. 25,1913.
outermost bracket 10 is a shaft 15, the lower end of which is provided with a'. socket 16. Fixed to the upper end of the shaft l5 is a beveled gear 17 which meshes with a similar gear 18 fixed to the outer end of the shaft 1l.
Mounted upon the side of the can 1 is a pair of spaced brackets 19, in the lowerf most one is journaled the lower end of a vertical shaft 20, said shaft having its upper end journaled in the uppermost bracket 19 and engages in the socket 16, whereby when the cover 6 is removed from the can- 1 the socket 16 readily disengagesA the upper end ofthe shaft 20. 4
Connected t0 the lower end of the can 1 is a cock 21 having mounted therein a turning plug22 which is provided with a stem 23, said stem passing through a barrel 21 carried bythe cock. The upper end of the stem 23 is journaled in the upper end of the barrel 24 and has fixed thereto a beveled pinion 25 which meshes with a similar pinion 26` carried bythe shaft 27, said shaft being journaled. in the uprights 28 carried by the upper end of the barrel 24. The outer end of the shaft 27 is provided with a handle 29, said shaft also having fixed thereto a gear 30, which meshes with a gear 31 fixed to the lower end of the shaft 20. From this construction it will be seen that upon rotation of the handle 29 the shaft 23 is rotated, which operates the turning plug 22 so that a quantity of the milk will pass through the cock 21. When the handle 29 is rotated corresponding movement is imparted to the shaft 27 which rotates the gear 30, and through the medium of the shaft 20 the shaft 11 is rotated, which in turn rotates the agitator shaft L so that the spiral blade carried thereby will rotate, thus thoroughly mixing the 'milk and cream upon each operation of the handle 29.
The can is especially adapted for use in lunch rooms so that the cream which natu- `,rally rises to t-he top of the milk is tho-roughly mixed with the milk so that the customer is sure of getting a rich glass of milk.
What is claimed is In combination with a can having an agitator mounted therein, of a cock connected to the can, a turning plug for the cock, a barrel carried by the cock, a horizontal shaft journaled upon the'upper end of the barrel, a
' handle carried by the shaft, a stem having its lower end connected to the turning plug and its upper end provided with a gear adapted to mesh with a gear carried upon said shaft,
, a vertical shaft journaled upon the side of first named vertical shaft, a cover having journaled therein a horizontal shaft and means connecting the second named vertical shaft and second named horizontal shaft for 15 rotating the agitator when the handle and turning plug are rotated. v
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
RALPH A. MOWREY.
