ANITA 11. mm, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARMENT-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 6, 1917.
Application filed November 20, 1915. Serial No. 62,480.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANITA H. KEIR, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Garment-Supports, of which the following is a specification. My invention is an improved garment support adapted to be adjusted in position for the purpose of facilitating the handling of the garments and holding them in closer relation within contracted space while permitting the device to be folded or turned out of the way when not in use.
A primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and convenient garment supporting device'that can be adjusted readily for saving space and accommodation to particular uses.
The characteristic features of my imrovements are fully disclosed in the folowing description and the accompanying drawings embodying a form of said improvements.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective .view of an embodiment of my improvements in use as a support; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same in a second position representing the ada tability for adjustment to narrowed space when in use;
. and Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of the device folded out of the way as when not in use.
My improved supporting device, in the form illustrated in the drawings, comprises an arm 1 having its inner end supported by a block 2 which is connected by a hinge 3 with supporting means 4, such as a closet wall, partition, door, rail or other suitable and convenient means.
A tension member 5, preferably a light chain, is connected in any convenient mannor, as by an eye 6, with the outer end of the arm and is adapted to be connected with a hook 7 fixed above the hinge 3, whereby the arm may be held in the horizontal pos1- tion shown in Fig. 1 or the inclined position shown in Fig. 2. A ring 8, in the eye (3, serves to engage the hook 7 and hold the arm in a. vertical or substantially vertical plane, out of the way, when not in use.
Hooks 9 are fixed at convenient distances along the arm 1 for the purpose of engaging the hooks 10 of garment hangers 11, the latter holding the garments 12.
When it is desired to engage garments upon the device or remove them therefrom or when otherwise desirable, the arm will be supported in the horizontal position, as in Fig. 1. When room is required and the garments 7 supported will permit. the tension member can be taken u and the arm held in any inclined p ition or in a position parallel to the support, the device permitting any desired adjustment from a position sub stantially at right angles to the support to any other angular position with relation thereto.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A garment support comprising a block having a hinge connected with the top thereof'and adapted to be fixed to a support, an arm fixed to said block, said arm being provided with devices fixed along its length and adapted for supporting hangers, said block being adapted 'to engage said support second named to limit the movement of said arm, and a tension member for supporting said arm in different angular positions.
2. A garment support comprising a block having a hinge connected with supporting means so as to have a limited turning movement, said block engaging said supporting means to limit its movement, an arm fixed to said block below said hinge, means fixed at intervals along said arm for supporting hangers, and means comprising a hook and an adjustable tension member connected with the outer end of said arm for supporting it in different angular positions.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name this 17th day of November, 1915.
