UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIoE.
CARL W. CARLSON, O'F GALVA, ILLINOIS.
DISPLAY-RACK.
Application led May 15, 1816.
Tn all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Cnn. W. C/iansox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galva, in the count)T of lleniwr and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks; and do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art. to which it appertains to make and use the seine.
`This invention relates to new and useful in'iprovements in display racks of that character which are intended for exhibiting samples of mercl'iandise on sale.
The principal object of the invention is to rovide a device of this character which while simple in construction, will exhibit artlles'in a very, attractive manner.
'. An additional object of the 'invention is -tov provide 'a device havingr a number of slides flor carrying the goodsI which may be pulled from the frame at will to more readily reach the articles.4
Still another object is to provide a device, the frame of which is vertically adjustable so that the slides may be disposed in various inclined positions.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel features of construction which will be hereinafter more particularly described and `clail'ned.
In the accompanying drawingY wherein similar-'reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is `a side elevation of a portion of a. display rack constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a. horizontal'sect-ion taken on'the plane o'f the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one end of one of the slides,the yokes connected thereto 'heilig in section Fig. .4 is a horizontalection on the planer ofthe line 4.4 of Fig. f3;
'F1 5 is it vertical section on the plane oli i the llne 5-5 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a vertical'scetion taken on the line 6--6 of Fig. 1'.I
This improved display rack may be inclosed in a. casing or situated in a. suitable postion'withoilt thecasing, as shown inthe drawing. The rack comprises broadly a freine of any desired height in which is placed a number of ver ally spaced goods carrying slides upon which the articles toV Specification of Letters Patent.

be i'ended are disposed. The .i'rainr is formed of' a pair of vertical supports` l ol ani' desired length which are preferably placed adjacent the wall li', and an addi tional. pair of upright supports L), said last. named supports |neferably being' in two parts so that their lenli'th ina be increased or decreased. llaeh olf the ysupports .3 has a. foot portion 2 which rai-ries an inwardly extending.; threaded sind 5l. and a ninin portion 2l' which is verticali)y and longitudinally slotted as .shown al. l to revoire the sind Ii. a wing?r nut 3 being disposed on said sind to .'elainp [he main portion 2' to the foot. .portion2 .so that. the parts may be held in adjusted positions.
These .supports 1 and 2 inni' be secured to the ioor by any l'ii'eferred means and are held in spaced apart relation b v a plurality of vertically spaced guide bars (i, two
,sets ot which are provided, one connecting one each of the supports 1 and 2, while the other .set connects the other pair of suppprts. lilac-.h ot' the guide bars ailjaeent one end has a combination bearing and spacing block 'i' secured thereto on its outer face. 1t might he lierenientioned that the guidebars are preferably ifiwtanifuh'ii' in cross section and have their widest sides disposed vertically. From each of the supports l at vertically spat-.ed points thereon. pivot studs 8 project and are disposed in the bearing blocks 7', thus pivotalli attaching the guido barsl thereto and also spacingr them there ironi. 'lhe opposite ends` oi the guide bars il are pivotally connected to the inain por tions 2" of the supports 2 by any lireferred means.
These guide bars (l are designed to support the goods carrying slides 9, one of which is provided for each pair ofbars 6.' llaehslide 9 is substantially U-shaped in plan view and has its arius 1 0 disposed .for
slidable ei'igageiuent with thil inner faces of the guide bars (tand of :i length siibstan-- tit) each of the guide bars 6 only a slight dis- I spaced from the supports i2, these fingers 13 will engage said supports when the slides have been drawn outwardly to their fullest extent, thus providing a. very simple arrangement for limiting the outward move ment thereof.
vIn the upper edges ot.' each of the gruide bars (i is formed a plurality oi substantially V-sliaped seats 1l in any ot which ribs l5 also V'shaped which are formed on the yokes ll, are designed to be disposed. 'hen it is desired to pull one ot the slides on'twardly, the saine is lifted slightly so that the ribs l5 on the. yokes 11 will be raised out of the notches i4, said ribs riding` on the upper edge of each. guide bar until the desired position is reachedby the slide, whereupon it is allowed to move downward into its normal position with the ribs l5 engaging appropriate seats` 14. This consti'iiction holds the slide in its adjusted'position until the. ribs are manually disengaged troni the seats 1l. the rear wall oi said seat preferably being inclined upwardly and rearwardly so that said ribs will readily slide ont of the same when it is desired to push the slide into its retracted position. i?" Y lVli'ile l have illustrated each of the slides formed substantially U-shaped, it is obvious that if desired the same may be formed with a solid bottoni or with any other 1neans,' depending upon lthe goodswhich are desired to be stored Por displayedl ln the present instance l have Jr'orined each of the arms l() with a plurality of bearing sockets 1G to receive trunnionsI 17 which project from the opposite ends oi' material carrying members 1H, the latter being either flat.. or cylindrical as preferred. Upon these members 1S goods such as ribbons and various kinds of clothes may be wound fo the purpose of storinpr the saine.
4.slides 5l, the. front end ofthel frame is prei'. .erably lowered by adjusting the supports .2
so as to dispose the slides at an angle to the floor, vthus greatly facilitating the removal of any particular slide. After the forward The sockets 1t) are preferably-- Lopen so that the members 18 with the Inaend of the frame has been lowered, the properslide is d. lawn outward until the desired eloth is readily accessible. After the purchase has been made the slide may be pushed into the t'ranie and the saine adjusted vertically or allowed to remain in its former position as most convenient.
