UNITED STATES PATENT OrrrcE.
AMOS H. JACKSON, OF FREMONT, OHIO.
SHOW-RAC K.
SPECIFICATION forming prt of Letters Patent No. 349,255, dated September 1.4, 1886.
Application led August 6, 1885.
ToA all whom it may concern:
-I e it known that I, AMos H. JACKSON, a. citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. v This invention has for its object the provision of a sample rack or stand for the convenlent and advantageous display of dry-goods, more' particularly hosiery, shawls, towels, and the like; and it consists of the combinations of parts, including their Construction, substantlally as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my sample-rack with the suspending-cords broken away, and Fig. 2 is a, detailed plan view of a modification thereof.
In carrying out my invention I employ,
"preferably, a rectangular frame, A, which may be suspended` by ropes a., chains, or other suitable medium connected at the corners of said frame and at the corners of asecond frame, A', itself suspended by similar ropes, a', or other suitable means, which, in practice, are connected at their upper convergent ends to a common rope passed through a pulley depending The common or single rope will depend within convenient reach to be readily reached or grasped for raising or lowering the sample rack or holder. Any number of rods B are passed through the frame A and project from all four of its sides. These rods are arranged in pairs, each pair being connected at its projecting ends upon opposite sidesl of the frame A by a cross or clamp bar, b, through each of which bars pass two knobbed rods, b', upon which latter the said bars b slide and are guided, their knobs limiting the 'outward movement of the said bars. rlhe rods B are each made in sections or two parts, arranged end to end, and connected together by a spring, d, preferably a coiled spring. This arrangement renders said rods more or less eXtensible and their sections automatically contractible holding their cross-bars normally contracted, whereby with the goods or articles-such, for instance, as previously herein named-folded or doubled over or upon eye-rods C, through whose eyes pass the rods b', the said articles or goods will be clamped in place in such a man- Serial N. 173,761. (No model.)
ner as to permit the convenient and advantageous display of the articles or goods.
' In lieu of connecting what formerly were the clamp-bar connecting rod sections B by the springs, the latter may be disposed upon the guide-rods b' between said clamp-bars and the knobs or heads of said guide-rods, as shown in Fig. 2, and the same end be secured.
As many sample holders or racks of the foregoing construction may be used as found necessary, each successiverack or holder being suspended from its fellow in like manner as the one in particular above described is suspended from its supporting-frame.
In lieu of suspending the sample racks or holders from the ceiling, as above described, the same may be held upon a revolving stand or upright frame standing upon the oor or other surface.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a sample rack or holder,"the frame orsupport having a number of spring-acted-upon clamp-bars connected by rods passing through the frame, in combination with the knobbed guide-rods and the eye-rods, said eye-rods being secured 011 said knobbed rods, substantial 1y as andfor the purpose set forth.
2. In a sample holder or rack, the combination, with a frame or support, of the clampbars, the connecting-rods, the springs connected to the inner ends of said connecting-rods, and the knobbed gnide-rods passing through the frame, said clampbars being connected to and guided by said knobbed guiderods, sub stantiall y as shown and described.
3. In a sample rack or'holder, the combination, with the frame or support, the sectional rods, the springs connecting the sections of said rods at their inner ends, knobbed guiderods, and clamp-bars arranged thereon, ofthe eye-rods, through the eyes of which pass the IOO
