GMENT-HANGER.
Application filed June 25, 1914.. Serial No. 847,251.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LE0 W. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burke, in the county of Shoshone, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. a v
This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers, and particularly to devices for hanging coats, vests and trousers.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple and novel device of this character which can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object is to provide a device of this character with a novel the hanger being so constructed and arranged as to firmly clamp the shank of the hook when the hanger is in operative position.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a hanger made accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view, a portion of the hook being broken away. I,
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the device in folded position.
Fig. 4 is a sectional View on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 and 11 represent the sections of the coat and vest supporting portion of the device, these sections being pivotally connected together at 12. Each of the sections 10 and 11 is open on the lower side, and pivotally connected within this hollow portion at the outer end of each of the sections is a link 13, the links being pivotally connected together at their inner ends. The sections 10 and 11 are arranged to be folded so that their fiat edges 14 come together, and the links 13 folded upwardly and within the sections. On the abutting inner end faces of the sections are formedthe vertical grooves 15 and disposed within the grooves hook member 16. The
suspending hook,
provide a cross member 17 one end of which passes through an opening 18 formed in one side of one of the sections while the opposite end of the cross member is disposed within a recess formed in the edge of the inner end face of the section. When the device is in extended or operative position the links 13 extend in a horizontal line between the outer ends of the sections While the inner ends of the sections abut and firmly clamp the shank of the screw within the grooves, the end face of the other section bearing against the portion of the cross' member which is disposed in the recess holding the same against disengagement. When the device is in folded position, the hook member is folded down so that the hook portion rests in the of the other section.
If desired, the hook member may be removed when the device is folded by swinging one end of the cross member out of the recess and withdrawing the other end from the opening.
What is claimed is:
A garment hanger comprising a pair of channeled sections pivotally connected together and having straight inner faces adapted to lie together when the sections are folded, the abutting portions of the pivoted ends of the sections formed with transverse walls having cooperating longitudinal grooves, the inner end of one of the sections being formed with an opening and a recess inwardly of the wall and arranged in transverse alinement, the transverse wall of said end having an opening formed in the inner end of the groove thereof, and a hook member provided with a shank movable in the wall opening and having an offset and transversely extending angular portlon one end of which is movably disposed in the said opening and the other end of the sald POI? tion engaged in the said recess, said sectlons being arranged to be swung to clamp the shank of the hook member within the grooves, the groove of the-other'wall receivingthe shank of the hook when the sectlonsare folded.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses. I
LEO W. HARRIS. Witnesses:
