To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OT'ro PETERMANN, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, and a resident of Groton, county of Tompkins, and State of',Ne w York, have inventedcertain new anduseful Improvements in Card and Label Holders for Type-Writing Machines, and exact description,
The main object of this invention 18 to produce an exceedingly simple card and label holder adapted to be temporar ly placed on the printing platen of a typewriting machine for the purpose of holding the upper edges of small cards or the like while the same are being printed upon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a card or label holder of one piece of thin spring metal so shaped that normally printing platen in such manner as to serve as a means'for holding a card or a label,

With these and other objects in view, the invention will be h'ereinafter more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of 'holder in position thereon and shown as gripping one edge of a card or label; and Fig. 3 a similar view showing the label holder in its releasing position.
Referring to the various parts by nuof which the following is a full, clear,

The holder is formed on a radius slightly smaller than the radius of the platen in connection with which it is intended to be used so that it must be expanded slightly in order to place it on the platen.
The holder is formed for a greater portion of its surface on an are so that when applied to a platen the greater portion of it will fit closely against the platen. The for ward portion of the holderis' curved outwardly slightly from its forward gripping edge 2, and theri is curved inwardly to form the fulcrum point 3. From this fulcrum point the holder is again curved outwardly to form the outwardly bulging portion 4. The gripping edge 2 normally engage the surface of the printing platen and the fulcrum portion 3 is close to said surface but does not engage it. To move the gr pping edgeoutwardly and thereby releasethe card or label the bulged portion 4 is distorted by forcing it inwardly. This brings the fulcrum portion 3 into con tact with the printing platen and moves outwardly the grippingedge 2, as shown clearly in Fig.3. By forcing the bulged part 4 inwardly to bring it into conformation. with the exterior surface of the printing platen,
the fulcrum portion 3 is brought into con tact with the platen'and takes up the strain, thereby relieving the gripping edge. As the pressure applied tothe bulged portion 4 brings that portion of the holder'into conformation with the platen surface, the grip ping edge is moved slightlyj forwardly and away from the platen surface and that portion of the holder between the fulcrum point 3 and the gripping edge isrelieved entirely of the tension'of the holder on the printing platen. As soon, however, as the bulged portioz'ris released and permitted to return to itsnor'mal shape and condition, the gripping edge is again brought into engagement with the printing platen and then takes up the tension of the holder onthe platen. Normally, therefore, thegripping points of the holder are the gripping edge 2 and the main 10.
body'of the holder which conformsto' the surface of the platen, while abnormally, that 'is' to say when the holder is distorted by forcing inwardly the bulged part, the gripping portion of the holder is between the fulcrum point 3 and the main body of the holder.
As the holder is who made. of very thin i material, the platen canlbe turned around with the holder without. anyinjury to the I and'not likely to become injured or rendered inoperative.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters LL'A' card and label holder adapted to fit about the platen of a typewriting machine and having a resilient curved sheet-like body provided with a gripping edge and a press-' able part normally extending away from the platen and adaptedwhen pressed toward the platen to extend the body and force the gripping edge away from the platen.

In a typewriting machine, the combination of a platen, and a card and label holder having a curved resilient metal body adapted to yieldingly clasp the platen and provided with a gripping edge, a part parallel with the gripping edge adapted to serve ,as a fulcrum when forced against the platen, and a bulged part extending away from the I bodyof the platen and adapted to force the fulcrum part against the platen and force the gripping edge away from said platen.
3. In a typewriting machine, the combination of a platen, and a resilient sheet metal card and label. holder independent of and detachable from the platen and having its body curved to yieldingly clasp the same,

gripping edge and normallyout of contact with the platen surface and an outwardly bulged part adjacent said fulcrum point and extending throughout the length of the body, wherebyupon forcing inwardly the bulged portion the gripping edge will be moved outwardly away from the platen surface.
5. A sheet-like resilient body curved transversely to adapt it for attachment to a platen and provided with a work sheet holding part at one edge, and an outwardly extending inwardly pressable part integral with the work sheet holding part, and with an inwardly bent fulcrum part between the work sheet holding part and the inwardly pressable part, whereby when the pressable part is forced inwardly the work sheet holding part will be forced away from the platen to release the work sheet.
6. A sheet-like resilient body curved transversely to adapt it for attachment to a platen and provided with a work sheet holding part at one edge, and an outwardly extending inwardly pressable part integral with the work sheet holding part, and with an inwardly bent fulcrum part between the work sheet holding part and the inwardly pressable part, and adapted to engage a rigid part of the platen when the said pressable part is forced inwardly, whereby when the pressable part is forced inwardly the work sheet holding part will be forced away from the platen to release the work sheet.
7. A device of the class described, comprising a resilient body curved transversely to adapt it to grip the surface of a platen and having a sheet-gripping edge portion, and an outwardly 'projecting portion adapted when pressed inwardly to lift the sheet-gripp'ng edge portion from the platen. -8. A device of the class described, comprising a sheet-like body curved transversely to conform to the curvature of a platen and to adapt it for attachment to the platen,and provided with a work sheet holding part at one edge and an outwardly extending inwardly pressable part integral with the work sheet holding partand adapted when pressed inwardly to force the'work sheet holding part away from the platen to release the work sheet.
