HOLDER FOR PAPER FINGER-BOWLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
mama Feb. e, rear.
Application filed. February 2, 1914. Serial No. 816,002.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUKE V. FARMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Holders for Paper 1F inger- Bowls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders for paper receptacles which are adapted for use as finger-bowls and the like, and has for its object improvements in the construction of the same to the end that a light, durable and stable holder is produced, having a base of large area, and which has a large center-hole through. it purposely preventing it from being put to other uses than that for which it is designed.
The drawing represents in side elevation and partial vertical section a finger-bowl holder embodying this invention.
The holder is composed of sheet metal and fashioned by a spinning process thereby to form a circular base-portion 10 of large area with inturned or rolled edge and of trumpet-form, and an upper portion of a shape corresponding to an inverted truncated cone, said upper portion having a fiaring side-wall 12, with its upper edge rolled outward, as at 13, and having a circular base 14: with a center-hole 15, through it in continuation of the center-hole in the trumpetformed base 10'. The constricted portion 16 of the trumpet-formed base is made long enough to afford a support for elevating the upper-portion, thereby separating the portions a considerable distance and supporting the paper-receptacle or finger-bowl at an elevation yet providing an efficient and stable support for it.
It is to be particularly noted that the circular base portion 14.- provides a comparatively horizontal annular ledge on which the bottom of the paper receptacle rests, and that the opening 15 is of substantial size to provide in efiect a recess in which the bottom of the paper receptacle may be slightly depressed under the weight of the contained water so as to more effectively center the weight of the water content, and hence further tend to prevent tipping or overturning of the structure in use. Again the flared base portion 10 and the circular base 14 are so spaced apart that with the fingers grip-,
ping the constricted portion 16, the respective base portions referred to provide upper and lower walls to prevent tipping of the holder while being carried. The edge of the trumpet-formed base 10 is rolled as indicated to provide a rounded marginal head which forms the sole contacting portion with the surface on which the holder rests, and by reason of this specific formation is more readily moved from place to place over said surface, such movement being facilitated by the rounded formation of the edge, and the fact that only the edge is in contact with the surface.
I claim A holder for paper finger bowls or the like, constructed of sheet metal, and formed to provide a pedestal of circular outline in transverse section, the wall of the pedestal curving outwardly above and below the central portion thereof, and presenting approximately horizontal upper and lower base portions, the material beyond the upper base portion being projected upwardly and outwardly to form a receiver of inverted truncated cone shape, having a minimum diam eter equal to the maximum diameter of the upper base portion, the edge of the lower base portion being rolled to present an annular rounded supporting edge for the holder, the lower base portion, pedestal and upper base portions having an opening therethrough from a continuation of the receiver space, the upper base portion presenting a horizontal ledge to receive the marginal edge portion of the finger bowl, the central portion of the bottom of said finger bowl being unsupported.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUKE W. FARMER.
