SANITARY HOLDER FOR TOILET ARTICLES AND THE LIKE.

Application filed April 28, 1325.

Another object of the invention is to pro-V vide a holder for toilet articles and the like in which the articles will be normally held in separated position and inclined toward the axis olf-the holder so that they will not tend to fall out of the holder.

A further object ot' the invention is to r provide a sanitary container for toilet articles which will protect them from germs and dust and from which they can be readily removed for use and easily replaced.

A further object of the invention is to provide a holder for sanitary articles which can be readily introduced into a glass or other receptacle carried by a bracket upon the wall and from which the holder can be readily withdrawn to permit the removal ot' r the article desired.

Another object of the invention is to provide a sanitary-holder of the character described having a cover provided with a liange surrounding the upper end of the receptacle and having Ventilating ports to permit the air to enter the receptacle laterally, while dust is prevented by the cover from settling upon the articles in the holder.

Other objects and features of the invention will more fully appear Jtrom the following description and the accompanying drawing and will be particularly pointed out in the claims.

The invention comprises essentially a holder for toilet articles and the like adapted to be introduced into a usual formy `ot Serial No. 26,384.

rhe holder is provided with a base so constructed that when the lower ends of the articles are resting upon said base they will be caused to lean toward the vertical axis thereof. As the articles are to be placed in the separate compartments between adjacent radial plates the upper ends of the articles which restagainst the plates will be prevented from lateral displacement.

Preferably the base 3 is of conical form, the wall of the cone diverging vdownwardly and outwardly from the axis of the standard and is provided with a preferably cylindrical rim l which'is secured to the outer edges of thc vertical plates 1. The lower circular edge of the base is adapted to rest upon the bottom of a glass tumbler 5, or other suitable receptacle, and desirably apertures 6 are provided adjacent the periphery'oic the base to permit-any water which otherwise would accumulate in the lower portion ot' receptacle.

The holder desirably is provided with a cover 7 likewise of conical torni and secured to the upper ends of the plates 1. The apex oi" the cover is provided with a handle 8, preferably in the form of a ring, by means of which the holder can be raised out of and introduced into the receptacle or supn ported upon a suitable hook. rllhe holder desirably is somewhat longer than the receptacle so that the conicalportion of the cover l is located well above the upper end ot the receptacle. As illustrated this means coinprises a spider 19 havinga series of pairs of resilient arms 2O and 21 diveiging from the spider outwardly to about midway oi their lengtlnthen'converging for a distance and terminating in divergingly curved ends. By reason of this construction the articles, such as, tooth brushes and the like, can be placed in the holder with their lower ends resting upon the base of the holder and the upper port-ions of the articles readily thrust between the curved ends of the resilient members and when introduced are securely retained in position.v

In this construction,` as in that disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2, the base of the holder is provided adjacent its periphery with a series of apertures 22 to permit any liquid which might otherwise accumulate in the base portion of the holder to vescape into the receptacle. i

In the use ofthe device an ordinary tumbler, such as are commonly used inbathrooms and supported upon brackets on the walls thereof, may be employed as a receptacle and the holder with the toilet articles supported therein introduced at the top of the receptacle, the base 0i"` the holder resting upon the bottom of the receptacle.

V'Vhen it is desired to use one or more of the articles in the holder the holder can be readily raised by its handle a sucient distance to permitthe"article'to be grasped and removed from, the holder. l/Vhen the articles are'to be restored to the holder the holder canf again be. raised a suflicient distance to permit the article to lbe readily placed in it. In such instances the lower .end or the article is placed upon the base and by reason ofthe downward and outward inclination of the base the lower end of the article slides outwardly until it engages the rini of the "base, The upper end of the article thereby tends by gravity to lean toward the axis of the holder and in the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 the upper ends of each article rest against the converging walls of the vertical plates 1. In the construction illustrated in Figs. 3 and l the upper portion of the articlecan be pressed. against the resilient gripping members which will. yield suniciently to enablethe article to be securely engaged by the arms thereoi:` so that when the holder is withdrawn'or removed from the receptacle the toilet articles cannot fall out.

. TWhile the holder herein described is primarily. intended:v to be used with a receptacle and to form a cover therefor it will be obvious that the' holder itselac may be used sep arately or sold separately as the base of `the cover or the Vcover alone may be so'constructed as to fit a glass vorp standard size. Itwill also` be obvious that the holder itself: may be supported by. its handle or ring from a. suitable bracket.

It will'be understood that the embodiment el the invention disclosed herein is oi an illustrative character and is notrestrictive, and that various changes in torni, const-ruction and arrangement of parts may be made within the spirit and scope of the following claims.

Having thusdescribed the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired tobe secured by Letters Patent, i-s:

1. A holder for toilet articles and the like comprising a standard. provided1 with means to engage the upper portions of the article and prevent lthe' lateral ydisplacement `thereof, a base secured to said standard having means to cause the articles resting upon said base to lean toward thevertical axis oisaid holder.

2. A holder for toilet articles and the like comprising a standard havinga' cover provided with an upwardly extendnghandle A member and having means to engage the upper portions'of the articles and prevent lateral displacement thereof, a base secured to said standard inclined downwardly and outwardly from the vertical axis thereof and provided with a rim and acting tovcause the articles restingupon said. baseA to lean toward the vertical airis of said holder.

A sanitary container for toilet articles and the like comprising a receptacle, a holder removably mounted therein having a standard provided with means to engage the upper portions of the articles and prevent lateral displacement thereof, a base se cured to said standard inclined downwardly and outwardly from the vertical axis thereof adapted to rest upon the base of said receptacle and provided with a rim and acting to cause the articles resting upon said "f5 between the cover and the top of the receptacle and having a downwardly extending flange surrounding the top of said receptacle so constructed as to provide means for ventilating said receptacle.

5. A sanitary container for toilet articles and the like comprising a receptacle, a holder removably mounted therein having a standard provided with means to engage the upper portions of the articles and prevent lateral displacement thereof, a basev secured to said standard inclined downwardly and outwardly from the vertical axis thereof adapted to rest upon the base of said receptacle and provided with a rim and acting to cause the articles resting upon said base to lean toward the vertical axis of said holder, a cover for said receptacle secured to said standard in such postion-.that the body of the cover is above and separated from the top of the receptacle when the base of the holder rests upon the base of the receptacle and a downwardly extending` flange on said cover surrounding the top of the receptacle and provided with Ventilating ports abovc the top of the receptacle. f

6. A sanitary container for toilet articles and the lille comprising a receptacle, a holder removably mounted therein having a standard provided with means to engage the l upper portions of the articles and prevent lateral displacement thereof,' a base secured to said standard inclined downwardly and outwardly from the vertical axis thereof adapted to rest upon the base of said recep-V tacle and provided with a rim and with apertures adjacent the periphery of said base adapted to permit the liquid to flow from the holder into the receptacle and a cover for said receptacle secured to said standard having a downwardly extending flange surrounding the top of saidreceptacle.
