FRED S. CARR, 0F BROOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 CARR FAS-TENER COMTANY, GF CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPLAATION OF MAINE.
CARTRIDGE-CARRIER.
To all whom it may concern:
v Be 1t known that l, Pano S. Cana, u citizen of the United States,.residing at Brookwhich the following is a spiariieation.
This invention relates to 4carriers for eontainingr cartridges coupled together b v clips, the carrier beingadal'ited to contain two or more. clips side by side, and each clip containingr apluralitv of cartridges.
The type of carrier to which my invention relates includes a series of flexible pockets usually of woven fabric formed on and eonnected by a belt adapted to be secured to a soldiers body, each pocket lm ving an open month at its upper end, and a iiexible-fla-p attached to the back side of the pocket and havn-1gb neck portion which extends across the nionth of the pocket and an end portion which overlairs the outerv sident they pocket,
nn-ans heini.:r provided for detachabljgY securin nl said end portion to 4the pocket. The normal shifting of the flap from its covering to its' .ineoveringr 'position involves a swinging movement of' its outer end outward and upward trom the frontof the poeket to a point abovethe porket, mouth.
The object of the intention is to positively prevent the abore-mentioned 'normal shifting of the flap b v aeeident and render `przwtirallv impossible the nni'astening ol'the il'apbv t'o'r'ees tending to shift it in the nor- 'mal direction, thas preventing liability of the r-xeeidental anfasteningr and displacement oi the ilap, and the loss of eartridges eontained in the pocket. the object b'eing`to permit the convenient manual nnfastening and lisplaeement of the flap to 4permit the insertion and removal of cartridges. I .ln accordance vwith theinvention I preferably employ its the fastening means a studand-sooket fastener ot'- the type shown by lietters Patent No. 1,038,988, dated September lo, i912, said fastener eomprising a stud member attached tov the' outer side of the `pioeket and a socket member attaehed toA the Jia-n and'adaptedito receive the stud member. lfhe members of Said fastener are ,pro-f vided with complemental' interengag'ing parts which are.4 separable by o tipping movement of the socket member m one ch- Specication o! are practically` inseparable by tipping novoments of the 'socket member in any other dlreetion.
ln aecordanee with my invention I pref- .'erablv secure the Stud member to the outer side of the pocket and suitably Connect the .sor-kei membei' with theholder to eause its eoinwration with the stud member when the tiap is closed. l also so arrange the socket member that the tippingT movement wherebv the members' are sepa rated is one whih mores' the end oi' the sor-liet member nearestthe nei-k portion or the iiap ontwardlv and downwardly from said inafkportion, and abnormall bends or buitres a part of the end portion without movin;y -the said portion bodilv outward from the pocket.' The mem bers are il-iseinlrable by a tippingr movement ot' the socket in any other direetion, so that the members cannot be separated 'by strain on the lower or transverse edge of the flap tending' to normall.y shift the ilap from its closed to its 'open position, or h v strain on 'either ot' the .vertiral edges of the i'lap tending to swing the ilap outward horizrmtally. Provision 1s therefore made for prevent-ire;
theaeeidenta'l opening oi the [lap by an)1 which isarranged to be grasped b v the operator and impart said predetermined tipping movement to the socket. member. said tab furnishing;r a convenient finger grip or engaging means not afforded by the flap itself, when the pocket is charged.

2.' In a rartridge carrier, in combination, a flexible porke-t7 a eover formed as a flexible flap attaehed to the rear side of the poeket, and ha ving a neck portion adapted to extend across the porket mouth, and an end portion Vadapted to overlap the outer side of the poeket, the normal shifting of tljie'lflap from its elosed to its open position involving a swinging movei'uent of its outer end outward and upward from the front ofthe pocket to a point above the pocket moutl'r` complementa] inner and outer *fastening members adapted to positively prevent said normal shifting, the inner member being attached to the pocket and the outer member movable relatively to the inner member to effect disengagement. said members being provided with interenggagrinelr parts adapted toa-online the flap in its elosed position. separable b v an endwise tipping; movement`of the outer member outwardlyI and downwardly li'om the nei-k portion olt the flapi and inseparable by an opposite endwise tippinpr movement ol' the outer member.v wherebvY the normal shifting movement olf the flap is positively `prevented when said members are interengagred. and a flexible handle attached to the outer'member and adapted to be in the direetion required to tip said member outwardly and downwardl)v from tbe neel( portion of the lap.
