Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented in. so, rare.
Application flied September 4, 1915. Serial No. 49,072.
To all whom z't-may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED A. Kanumd, a citizen of the United States, res1d1ng at Kramer, in the county of Bottineau and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Button-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons and button mounting devices,
The principal object of the invention is the provision of simple and efficient means. whereby the button may be rapidly attached or removed to any portion of the garment without the use of thread or other similar fastening means.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the position of the parts with the pins ready for insertion in the cloth. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form. sectional view therethrough.
Referring to the drawing and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 3, 1 represents the body of the device which is preferably constructed of sheet metal and has its side edges bentinto guiding and retaining flanges 2 producing channels for the reception of the pin carrying member 3. At one extremity of the body the side flanges are curled down- -wardly and inwardly into point retaining and receiving eyes 4 which receive the points of the yoke-shaped pin 5 journaled in the eye 6 formed in one end of the pin carrying member 3. The opposite end of the pin carrier 3 is upwardly curled to form a retaining lug adapted to engage over one end of the body and prevent the pin carrying member from being moved longitudinally of the body in the channels formed by the flanges. As the pin carrier is made of resilient or spring metal this lug 7 thrown out of the path of the end of the body so as to permit of the removal of the Fig. 5 is a longitudinal may be readily pin is substantially U-shaped having its opposite ends pointed and arranged to enter.
the eyes 4, lying parallel with the sides of the body when in engagement with said eyes. The pin carrying plate 3 has secured to its inner side a leaf spring 12, the terminal of which is provided with a beveled lug or catch arranged to engage over the end of the body into the aperture 5. By disengaging the catch or lug from the end of the body the plate 3 may be moved outwardly until the lug engages in the aperture 5. In
this position the pm is free to swing in either directlon so as to facilitate the insertion of the same into the cloth of the gar- .ment. If the catch lug is disengaged from the aperture 5 the entire pin mounting plate may be disengaged from the body and if desired, associated with another body having a different type of structure.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described comprising a body provided with a button and having guiding flanges thereon, a resilient plate slidably mounted between the flanges and the body, a U-shaped pin pivotally connected to and normally lying along the outside edges of the body in substantially the same p ane, eyes formed on opposite sides of. the body in substantially the same plane as the said body to receive the points of the pin and a, catch carried by the plate for retaining the pins within the eyes.
2. A device of the class described com-,
prising a body provided with a button and having guiding flanges thereon, a resilient plate slidably mounted upon the flanges and the body, a U-shaped pin pivotally connected to and normally lying along the outside edges of the body in substantially the same plane, eyes formed on opposite-sides of the body in substantially the same plane with the said body to receive the points of the pin and a hook shaped catch carried by the plate and overlapping the end ofithe body when in engagement therewith.-
