' Specification of Letters Patent.

To all 107mm t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H.- CARLS, a'citizen of the United'. States, residing at Yuma, in the county of Yuma and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Ir'provements'iin Currycombs,
of which the following is a specification,-
reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in currycombs and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and .improved device of this general character wherein a plurality of rotary members are employed which serve to effectively cleanse the animal and which also serves to vibrate or massage the skin of the animal during the cleaning operation.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved curry comb whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a curry comb constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view partly in bottom plan and partly in section of a curry comb as herein embodied; Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 5 is anenlarged elevational view of one of the bearings or bushings as herein employed.
As disclosed in the accompanying draw ings, B denotes the back of my improved curry comb substantially V-shaped in form and secured to the under face of each of the arms 1 of the back B is the plate 2 extending from the outer end of the arm to a point in close proximity to the apex portion of the back, and the opposite ends of said plate 2 are provided with the right angular ears 3 in which are mounted the bearings or bushings 4 capable of rotary movement and maintained in applied position throiigh the medium of the washers 5.
6 denotes a shaft angular in cross section and which has its extremities seated within the bushings or bearings 4, and mounted upon said shaft 6 are the toothed disks 7 each of which beingl provided at its center with an angular opening 8 whereby the same is caused to rotate in unison with the shaft G. The disks 7 are maintained in predetermined spaced relation longitudinally of the shaft through the medium of the spacing sleeves 9 through which the shaft 6 is also directed.
The arms 1 ofthe back B are disposed in such converging relation as to assure a maximum of efficiency in cleaning an animal, as the curry comb is moved back and forward in contact with the animal and it will also be self-evident that the rotation of the disks 7 will serve to vibrate or mas sage the skin of the animal.
The upper or outer face of the back B has secured thereto the elongated member 0r strip 10 also V-shaped in form and which is provided with the outstanding teeth 11 whereby upon reversal of the curry comb the same may be employed as a mane and tail rake as is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains.
The back B has secured to its apex portion the shank 12 of the handle 14, said shank and handle being disposed in the same general direction as the arms 1 whereby it will be perceived that the curry comb may be manipulated with convenience and facility.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a curry comb constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be as-l sembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several tially xl-shaped back, an elongated hand grasp secured to the apex portion of the back, a plate secured to the under face of each of the portions of the back at opposite sides of the hand grasp, said plates extending from the outer end portions of the back to points in close proximity to the apex portion thereof, the opposite ends of each of said plates being provided with angularly disposed ears, a shaft rotatably supported by. said ears, and currying elements carried by said shaft.
ln testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
