GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented aan. as, rara.
Application filed February 7, 191e. serial No. 76,737.
To all 'wwm 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH E. HUTCHIN- son, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morton, in the county of Renville and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, ot which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of a garment supporter including a belt having Suspenders attached thereto, the sup! porter being designed to be arranged 1nside the shirt and thereby hidden from View, which adds to the appearance of the user inasmuch as the ordinary belt about the waist band of the trousers is apparently the sole support for the latter'.
In carrying out my invention I employ a belt adapted to Vbe arranged inside the shirt,
and constructed to be associated with both' the shirt and trousers as the ordinary leather belt is drawn taut about the Waist band of the trousers, thereby supporting the latter and preventing the shirt from working its way out of the trousers.
Another important object of the invention resides in constructing the belt adapted to be arranged inside of the shirt from metal or like material, whereby the ordinary leather belt can be drawn as tight as necessary about the waist band of the trousers without contracting the metal belt to the discomfort of the wearer. Y
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following description is read in connection with the accompany-ing drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as defined in the claims.
In the drawing's forming part of this specication like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the Several views and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention showing the same applied to a ligure. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supporter removed from the figure. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one end of the belt. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the means for fastening the adjacent ends of the belt. `Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view through the parts associated.
Before entering into a detail description of the construction herein disclosed, l desire to have it understood that the same is merely illustrative of one embodiment of the invention, and that various changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. However as shown in this specific instance I employ a belt 5 preferably constructed from thin resilient steel, one end of the belt being provided with a plurality of openings 6 for the Areception of a fastening. element carried by the opposite end of the belt for holding the adjacent ends'of the belt operatively associated. Secured to the inner surface of the' belt adjacent the end carrying the fastening element are transversely disposed strips 7, the latter being split at both ends to provide the attaching lugs 8 which are bent into engagement with the upper and lower edges of the belt and also the hook-like members 9 which extend over the upper and lower edges of the belt and are adapted to receive therebetween the free end of the belt as the latter isfastened about the waist of the user, the hook-like members serving to maintain the opposite end yof the belt inoverlapping relation. The fastening element as shown in th1s particular instance consists ot' a resilient arm 10 itted between the belt 5 and one of the transverse strips 7, the free end of the arm being curved asy at 11 to prevent casual separation Aof the fastening element from the belt. The opposite end of the arm terminates in a stud 12 normally projecting through a suitable opening in the end of the belt to which the fastening element is secured, and also adapted to interchangeably engagein the openings 6 in the opposite end of the belt to permit the latter to be properly adjusted about the waist of the user.
Secured to the arm l0 is a transversely extending strip 13, which latter is formed to provide bendable tongues or lugsl ar ranged in pairs at the opposite sides of the which is connected a pair of Suspenders 16 for supporting the belt.
Secured to the exterior of the belt 5 is a plurality of substantially U-shaped clamping members 17 Which have a length slightly in excess of the Width of the belt. With the `fact borne in mind that the belt 5 is placed. about the Waist of the Wearer be-4 neath the shirt, it will be manifest that as the ordinary belt of the trousers is drawn taut, a portion of the shirt as Well as the waist band of the trousers is clamped Within the U-shaped members 17. By reason of this construction ,the trousers are not only properly supported, but the shirt is prevented from Working its way out of the trousers which under ordinary conditions is a source of considerable trouble and annoyanee. -The free ends of the U-shaped clamping members 17 are formed to provide a. round or curved surface so as to prevent injury to the shirt as the latter is forced Within the members. It is to be noted thatby supporting the belt 5 by mea-ns of the Suspenders 16, the belt can be loosely arranged about the Waist of the user, and by reason of the fact that the belt isiconstruvcted from resilient metal, the beltl of the trousers ma y be drawn as tight as necessary to propery support the trousers Without contracting the belt 5 to the discomfort of the wearer. It is a Well known fact that When the ordinary belt is drawn taut about the vvaist of the user, it'is injurious and re` stricts the expansion of the abdomen, which objections are eliminated by the provision of fhe belt 5 and the manner of supporting the same.
It is believed that from the :foregoing de- Gomes of this] patent may be obtained for five cents scription the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent Without requiring a more extended explanation. However While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to this construction, as various changes may be resorted to When desired as fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
IVhat is claimed is:*.
1. A garment supporter comprising a belt adapted to be supported about the waist of the user inside the shirt, means for adjusting the free ends of the belt, and substantially U-shaped members secured to the belt at spaced intervals and adapted to receive and hold the shirt and Waist band ot' the trousers associated therewith as the belt of the latter is drawn taut.
2. A lgarment supporter comprising a belt adapted to be arranged about the Waist of the user, one end of said belt having a plurality of openings, a resilient locking element carried by the opposite end of the belt for interchangeable engagement with said openings, shoulder suspension means supporting said belt, and substantially U- shaped members secured to the belt at spaced intervals and-adapted to receive and hold the shirt and waist band of the trousers associated therewith as the belt of the latter is drawn taut.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
