UNITED STATES ISAAC AMOS, OF BEL AIR, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENINGS FOR WlNDOW-BLINDS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC AMOS, of Bel Air, in the county of Harford and State of Maryland have invented certain new Improvements in Fastenings for Window-Blinds and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and one act description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The invention relates to improvements in the class of shutter or blind-hinges wherein a pintle is arranged to lock the same so as to hold the shutter or blind open. The invention consists in providing the pintle with a finger-hold and in constructing and arranging it in connection with the leaves of the hinge, as hereinafter described, whereby the shutter or blind may be closed after being unlocked without necessity of taking hold of the same.
Figure 1 is a horizontal section exhibiting my invention when applied to the blind. Fig. 2 is a view of the hinge exhibiting its appearance when the blind is thrown back and the leaves locked together.
A A represent the ordinary wings or leaves of a hinge, and a a their respective eyes. Each of these eyes is correspondingly slotted at a" a, so as to register, as shown in Fig. 2 of drawing. B is the pintle of the hinge, provided with a stud, b, near or about the middle, and with a fingerhold, I), at the top.
The mode of operation is as follows: In Fig. 2 of drawing the pintle B has been pushed down until its stud rests in the slots a a of both eyes a a. Hence it is firmly locked and cannot be shaken out by the wind or any orc'linary cause. By seizing the fin ger-hold 7) between the thumb and forefinger lifting it up and pressing from the window, not only is the blind unlocked, but brought round and closed without the necessity of stretching any part of the person of the operator outside of the window. Again, when it is desired to lock the blind back it is only necessary to seize the finger-hold I) pull toward the window until the blind swings back, and press down on the pintle, then the blind will be secured firmly, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described all that is neces sary to a full understanding of my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The pintle B, provided with the finger-hold b and stud b, and combined with the leaves A A, having notches, as specified, whereby the pintle may be operated to unlock and swing the shutter, as set forth.
To the above specification of my invention 1 have signed my hand this 10th day of October, A. 1). 187 1.
ISAAC AMOS.
