Be it known that I, LAWRENCE P. HARDY,

la citizen of the United States, residing at one or more coupons from the strip, as mayv be desired.

The invention has for its primary object the provision of a coupon holder consisting of separable sections forming a casing for the reception of the coupon strip, folded in a Hat, Zig-zag or accordion fold, the holder as a whole having a flat, compact structure, access being had to the casing for placement of the folded strip by separating the sections.

A further object resides in the provision of a coupon holder which is simple in structure, easily and cheaply manufactured, and practicable for the purpose intended, same being contemplated as an improved form of the coupon holder for which Letters Patent of the United States was granted to me April 14, 1914, and numbered 1,092,909.

The invention in the preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the complete holder. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section of the same. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the rear section. Fig. 5 is an end view of the rear section. Fig. 6 is a rear elevation of the front section. Fig. 7 is an end view of the front section.

The improved holder isl constructed of two parts, each appropriately formed of sheet metal, one of said parts as 1 being hereinafter termed the front section, and the other of said parts as 2 the rear section.

The front section 1 comprises a strip 3 of sheet metal of appropriate length and width, the side edges of which adjacent the upper end have integral projections which are bent to overlie the rear surface of the strip in spaced parallel relation thereto to Specification of Letters Patent.

Below the lower edges o f the tongues the strip is formed to provide a casing 5 disposed wholly in advance of the face of the strip, the same being substantially rectangular in formation and open on its inner side, and provided with side flanges 6 and an end flange 7 extending at right-angles from the side and end walls of the casing and in parallelism with the sheet. Extending across the open side of the casing and adjacent the upper end thereof is a bar 8, for a purpose which will later appear.

The rear section 2 comprises a strip 9 of sheet metal the upper portion of which is somewhat narrower and the lower portion of which is somewhat wider than that of the strip 3. The side and end edges of the lower portion of the strip 9 are bent to overlie the strip to provide side tongues 10 and an end tongue 11, and both the strips 3 and 9 are provided with elongated openings which are adapted to register when the sections are in holder forming relation, as indicated at 12 and 13.

ln the use of the holder, the coupon strip 14, which is folded in zig-Zag fashion, is placed in the casing 5 of the front section with the upper folds thereof extending above the cross-bar 8, and the free end of the strip passed upwardly between the tongues 4. The section 2 is then connected with section 1 by passing' the former longitudinally of the latter, with the tongues 4 of the latter overlying the side edges of the former, and side and end tongues of section 2 overlying the side and end flanges of section 1, thus holding the sections connected against otherwise than endwise separation. When thus connected the openings 12 and 13V in the sections register, and as the free end of the strip is held between the sections, the strip may be gripped with the fingers and moved upwardly until the desired number of coupons extend above the upper edge of the front section, when the projected coupons may betorn off through the medium of the straight upper edge of said section. The cross-bar 8 holds the upper folded ends of the coupon in Fig. 3, it will be apparent that any further withdrawal thereof will cause a downward pull on the particular end fold through the medium of the cross-bar, and the tendency of the fold in straightening out will be to force the remaining end folds away from the opening through which it is withdrawn from the holder, so that any portion of the strip cannot enter the opening doubled upon itself.

Vhile the foregoing is the preferred form of my invention, I desire it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise structure shown and described, as it is obvious that the same may be variously modified without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Vhat is claimed is A coupon strip holder including a backing plate provided with inwardly extending flanges at opposite sides and at the bottom thereof, a front plate provided Vwith inwardly extending flanges adjacent the top thereof, the lower portion of said front plate being formed to provide a rectangular casing with side, top and bottom walls, the side and bottom walls being bent to form outwardly extending flanges, whereby when the two plates are assembled, the inwardly extending flanges at the top of the front plate will embrace the edges at the upper part of the baclr plate and the outwardly extending flanges at the sides and bottom of the rectangular casing will be engaged by the inwardly extending flanges at the opposite sides and bottom of the backing'plate, therevf by securing the two plates against other than endwise separation.
